Dream Flowers is a project created from a Bulgarian artist based in Malta and financially supported Culture Moves Europe program and Goethe institute, inspired from the cultural heritage tradition of bobbin lace in Malta/Gozo and Croatia/ Lepoglava.
Dream Flowers will connect cultural heritage by creating visual art installations.
The project is focused on creating a connection between tradition and modern vision. Through visual art, installation and workings using the bobbin lace and other stuff made from recycled materials.
With this project I will like to create symbiosis between the past and the future by working with lave artists in Lepoglava and inviting youth Girls from the same area to learn and design to explore and sustain thier past and preserve thier future.
Inspired by art and culture, responding to needs beyond functionality.
Sustainable for arts, research, learning and community
Sustainable, in harmony with nature, the environment, and our planet.
Inclusive, encouraging a dialogue across cultures, disciplines, genders and ages.
Preserving and transforming cultural heritage
Education and creativity in a artistic no formal way, through blending education, research in culture and heritage.
The project uses art, craft and design to explore alternative ways of transforming territories across different spaces in the city.
And considering local needs and concerns through co-creation with residents and stakeholders.
The idea of feel, the sense of belonging and to sustain the cultural heritage that will give the community and the youth generation a place and way to keep it alive and share thier experience with other stakeholders.
We work in a small city where the opportunities of funding work is not so easy, at the same time this place has alot of unique history and cultural heritage that can give this area great opportunities to preserve it's culture in a creative way.
We start the project with asking the community to donate thier old broken umbrellas.
The process of creating the installation was something that the local people were very curious and very happy to learn about.
We created a very simple idea if sharing and designing a product that includes tradition and modern visualisation.
That can be interesting for all generations in the community and were they can share experiences and learn something at the same time.
This project was created to include as much as possible of the community in the current area.
In this project we have support from the local municipality that give us the access to approach and include as much as we can from the community.
We design a easy system of collaboration between the local municipality
The artists, designers and lave artists and the local community.
We designed a cooperation between 4 groups in the community and fully involve them in the process of the project.
The local council, the local artist, the lace artist, the youths and the rest of the community. Using a simple way of donating old materials and inviting them to see how they will be re-created and how this can involve thier culture and heritage.
1) the citizens benefit from this project by spending time together.
2) they have involved themselves in the project from the very beginning
3)they have the opportunities to work in a project that gives them the feeling of belonging.
4)they learn that the cultural heritage they've been keeping all these years can be sustained and can give them a future and can be made in a interesting way by using recycled materials and still use old traditions.
5)they learn that this can be made into a job for the community
The idea of the project is coming from an a artist that is from Bulgaria but long time
Resident in Malta. The project was cooperation between the artist the local municipality
The local artist and lace artist and the community.
This create a new collaborations and idea project that can be share between Gozo City of Sannat
And Lepoglava. The 2 places share same simularity in aspects of luck of future for their community
And this idea can create 1 future job for youths and womans 2 can preserve the cultural heritage
3 can be Green.
We have designers and lace artists, they work together to find the sustainable and modern vision of the additional craft bobbin lace that is popular in the specific area in Croatia.
In one sight we have designers that can give a modern vision of this tradition but at the same time they need to learn how to create lace themselves.
In another side there was the lace artists that repeated the same patterns of making lace.
These collaborations give the knowledge of keeping the old tradition and giving a modern vision that can attract the younger generation and keep it alive at the same time.
One of the most important outcomes it was that we create a stong meeting of beloging to a small community. We give them a opportunities to discover and understand the power of their cultural heritage. To encourage the youth to see that this can be sustainable and develop to creative work start up. And can keet them at home sharing their past with the future. The Intalation is now a visible example for the it work together. That every community have a comun story to share.
They have the opportunities to learn new skills: sharing, creating, design.
Lepoglava is well known with bobbin lace tradition in Croatia same as Gozo.
In the research that I made we found out that the tradition of bobbin lace is slowly being lost.
Our first thought was how to prevent this lose and how to sustain this tradition to make it interesting for the youths and to find a Green way if achieving it
This was the reason we created this project.
We were thinking of how the youths can be involved, whilst at the same time keeping it green and keeping the bobbin lace tradition alive.
To create something that can reach all 3 requirements.
We ask the community to colect old bloken umbrelas and donated for the project, as well the people from Lepogalva City was part of the workshops creating the flowers from broken umbrelas. We First comunicate with the local municipality where we ask them to encourage the Lace artist to take part of the art installation. Then we ask the citizens to donated umbrelas for the project and treads to make lace from it. Then we create workshops where everyone can join in the process of creating the final product of umbrelas flowers and finish the installation
Encouraging the community to take action in such art activities, and at same time creating interesting way the young people from this community to take part in a art that is their cultural heritage, to show then that this can have interesting way of learning and preventing.
Losing the power of sustain cultural heritage.
Lossing the future of specific cultural craft.
How the cultural heritage can be given a modern vision and prevent fo the future.
How young people can benefit from it learning new sklils and creating new work environment and Sustainable Green options that can keep the old tradition inventing Green sustainable development
