    NOAH INIATIVE: A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY
For a New ecological Order: Animals and Human beings" together
Four schools united to make one bridge between sciences, humanities and arts in an Erasmus+ cooperation. The aims were: inclusivity, personal development and giving more sense to teachings. Learners enhanced personal no scholar talents as well as the skills necessary to be sucessful at school and produced common outputs. Noah initiative consists in the implementation of this partnership but also in the parallel and subsequent creation of a sustainable community of green citizens protecting Life.

  • Description of the initiative
GOAL : Build, in the framework of a three years long school partnership as a first step,a sustainable international community ; by making some films and, as a final product, a science fiction short movie and by reflecting on the relationship between Animals and Human Beings
HOW TO DO IT ? Thanks to field surveys and meetings, students from four secondary schools can work together to produce works of scientific, philosophical and cultural interest and succed in the achievement of the goals assigned to the project. Outcomes must be sufficient enough to give the will to extend/redo...
FIRST RESULTS: Valorizing all students and empowering them through a peer-to-peer strategy, implementing a more rewarding and objective learning assessment, developing the computer skills of students and staff, and their familiarity with IST, and strengthening the key competences identified by EU. Make the impacts and the methodology efficient enough to be disseminated, shared and reused
OBJECTIVES: Conducting geographic, historical, biological and scientific field surveys on wildlife and interactions with human activities; Producting videos as activities reports ; Implementing multilateral meetings for writing and making off films or editing "rushes"
Studies of Noah's Arch myth and the Living, explorations of Farms, Reservations, Zoos
Inquiries and debate on empathy, sensitivity, diet ; Outcomes in http://erasmusplusanimals.francerv.eu becoming the NOAH INITIATIVE spot from 2022.
    METHODOLOGY:
    1 °) Four study travels
C1-C2 the production of short documentary reports of field surveys
C3 the publication of a Chart of Rights for Animals
C4 the production of a script and a flowchart in order to shoot a science fiction short film
2 °) Remote meetings, especially C5 virtual exchange supplemented by a summer internship (filming) and some videoconferences added to overcome the pandemic crisis
    3°) Reuse and new projects

    EMPATHY (AS THE FIRST VALUE)
INNOVATIVE LEARNING (A TRANSPOSABLE TEACHING METHOD)
BIODIVERSITY (PRESERVATION OF LIFE AS THE MAIN CIVIC GOAL)
ENHANCEMENT OF PERSONAL SKILLS (MAIN OUTCOME)
A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY (THE GREATEST IMPACT)
EMPATHY: climate goals to circularity, zero pollution, and biodiversity were understood/teacher as tools for building a most equitable, viable and viable world.
INNOVATIVE LEARNING: the crossing of scientific and literary studies to make a "bridge" between school subjects and give meaning, the realization of artistic performances to add a convivial dimension are common tactics for the teachers taking part in the Noah initiative (most of them as members of ILARGIA league, devoted to the promotion of this system, even before recommendations of New Bauhaus were published!). This strategy has sustainable effects.
BIODIVERSITY: studies of the environmental degradation make students (the citizens) able to face global warming's effects and give them more resilience; this intention is now formulated in Green Deal.
SKILLS: enhancement and sharing was an aim both to learners and teachers and it produced significative effects: newbies learnt from experimented colleagues and began to hold their own projects.
A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY: creation of a sustainable community of European teachers and learners was the most visible result of NOAH initiative (in wich is including: first the cooperative partnership funded by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Commission implemented from 2017 to 2021 then the following projects (and unformal relationships) which were maintained beyond by the former E+A team members, who kept in touch as friends and sometimes as partners in new actions focused Biodiversity and sustainable development. Only the strength of interpersonal links made possible the resilience face to the sanitar crisis: students' engagement did increase and allowed them to challenge the Quarantine; they did accept to make the filming of a Sci-FI movie consisting in the Final Intellectual Output of the E+A project after the end of exams (during the summer in, June 2021, even if they had to be theoretically in holidays at this moment). Evidence students becoming citizens.
Cause studies were focused from 2017 on the "Unity of Life" and supported by a bulgarian vocational veterinary school really determined to make of this topic a big subject, EMPATHY is an essential issue of our intiative and remained as a pedagogic aim the teachers wanted to highlight after the partnership was officially closed. Not only the notion was targeted by the curriculum (school activities) but it was applied to animals in real situations (students took some contacts with some associations of protection, etc.) and it has made social relations more kind, BEAUTIFUL. Due to the Pandemic, cast was completely changed and some pupils who were not supposed to play in front of the camera and/or in doubt of their English level successfully performed. It meliorated self esteem and make unforgettable the internship as also former study travels (emotional meetings, cultural benefit by erasement of setereotypes). School leaders, teachers, students, but also expert film makers: everyone did their best to achieve the ambitions predefined by the consortium and to find exemplary solutions in a gentle and cooperative spirit. It is probably for this reason that the Erasmusplusanimals project obtained a "certificate of good practice" and was subsequently awarded the EITA prize, marking the quality of the innovations it introduced. Also the movie was a success aetically (save the planet, not leave it) and esthetically. And it's a former pupil of the romanian team who invented the formula "Beautiful Family" concerning the NOAH beneficiaries, in the witness she has given during the international symposium organized in Cluj-Napoca, in november, 2022. This beautiful Family concretely exist, as several members are now involved in school cooperations together and many other project holders will join new initiatives from 2024. NOAH common networks are still available. Pedagogic tools are reused in new projects (with adjustments) and make confident the Quality Control will be great.
EMPATHY: Beneficiaries developed a "goodwill habitus" and inclusive behaviours (towards students with special disabilities, for example). It seems deep thinking on empathy towards animals help people to be better with others ones, in order to act really together!
INNOVATIVE LEARNING : Transnational little teams in charge of exploration and reporting tasks used to incoporate students from different origin an levels, in addition there came from different nations, and the process (as weel as peer-to-peer teaching sessions) helped to make of solidarity a common value. Including students with academic difficulties (poor results and/or absenteeism) showed their leadership in certain workshops and were "hung up" thanks to the benevolence of their peers and project leaders. Interpersonal relations between very different students have been significantly improved.
BIODIVERSITY : its protection appeared as a unifying subject. This consensus has made possible to create a group that is both militant but tolerant within which the debates have always remained measured. Respect for local cultures and the diversity of points of view remained a priority requirement which ensured that no one was marginalized (even when sensitive subjects arose: for example, that of bullfighting and ganaderias, the subject of discussions at Alcochete).
A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY : the implementation of the E+A project and the state of mind maintained after 2021 within the framework of other transnational cooperations have greatly helped the schools concerned by the initiative to face the health crisis (COVID 19) by adopting a flexible response (international consultation teachers http://nbeplus.franceserv.eu/eVeR1issues.html) and enhancing solidarity (intergenerational assistance between groups of students). More "Icebreakers" have been organized during Erasmus+ mobility and dances or songs introduced to leave good memories for the participants and also to enlarge the group of host students involved.
The formula "Beautiful Family" applied to the NOAH initiatve beneficiaries was first invented by a former Romanian student, in the witness she has given during the international symposium organized in Cluj-Napoca, in november, 2022 in order to disseminate Green Deal values and European cooperations. This Beautiful Family concretely exist, since several schools are still involved in european projects implemented together and many other project holders will join new intiatives from 2024. Teachers association ILARGIA founded in 2018 is always increasing and NOAH common transnational networks are still open (sites, blogs, Facebook groups, and so on).... Interest in Biodiversity has grown among school communities and has led to more events and information campaigns being organized (for example, at Lycée Ravel, three successive events called ERASMUS MOB devoted in 2020 to Animal Protection, in 2021 to Damage to the Environment then to the Forces and Weaknesses of Nature in 2022; a school exchange with Norway was implemented dedicated to Green Citizenship or special activities were organized for World Climate Day in 2023 http://college-lycee-ravel.fr/ravel/le-lycee-ravel-se-mobilise-pour-le-climat/). Insofar as the Noah initiative was born from a European partnership granted by the ERASMUS+ program within the framework of key action 2, it seemed logical to the Lycée Ravel teachers to propose other cooperation inspired by the same principles (interdisciplinarity combining scientific and literary issues and cultural cooperation leading to playful, convivial, artistic activities). QUINTESSENCE aims in particular to raise the question of energies and to make people think about sustainable solutions; and E+L.o.L aims the common values that must be mobilized to challenge the crises of the Present. school managers were was to develop the internationalization of teaching and French Headmaster strongly supported the adoption of an ambitious Erasmus Plan wich allowed accreditation.
    LOCAL LEVEL
School educative project of Lycée Ravel was boosteed by "Noah initiative"; it plans to back each of the specific sections (many are implemented) a specially dedicated transnational partneship. This is in accordance with the intentions of the Academy and the Rectorate's emphasis on teaching sustainable development. City Council of Saint Jean de Luz is a great partner always supporting the school exchanges and sometimes interested in special topic we are happy to share (memory of ARIEL operation was celebrated in April, 2022 with Polish friends coming from Kwidzyn [http://nbeplus.blogspot.com/2022/06/obchody-przyjazni-francusko-polskiej-21.html]. A special commitee called CO.PIL.OT was created in our secundary school to coordinate the European activities [http://nbeplus.franceserv.eu/summary.html#autres] and the teacher in charge of Sustainable Development Education is an active member. Students and teachers holding the partnerships are well supported by the Financial managers and Directors and all the staff is really personally implicated (both the Accountant Director and former Principle took part in meeting in Türkiye in 2017, then our Educational Advisor (CPE) went to Alcochete in Ocotber, 2020. Recently, the Accountant Assistant took part in a trip to Riga in October, 2021 and Mr Vice-Principle went to Norway in 2022. More than one hundred mobilities have been made at Lycée Ravel (to: Italy, Romania, Türkiye, Bulgaria, Latvia, Portugal, Norway and Spain). Local associations (especially: HEGALALDIA, ISAS ARIMA, APA..) were good partners and also the local Cinema (the place teachers of Lycée Ravel choosed in 2018 to create the ILARGIA international association in order to promote local heritages and mainly to make more sustainable and benefitable the relationships with their european friends and colleagues (League's headquarter is located at Lycée Ravel) in hte samte time we'll support the civic objectives defined by the EU.
    TO BE CONTINUED
REGIONAL LEVEL Our projects are suppotted by Regional Council and local deputies took part in some many events we did (last one: a local celebration of the EITA prize and a presentation of THE ARCH at LE SELECT cinema the 14th of october, 2022).
NATIONAL LEVEL E+A project was awarded by Erasmus+ Agencey (noter the delivery of the prizes was done in the building of Conseil Régional de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, in Bordeaux [an outllok online is edited in: http://nbeplus.franceserv.eu/bdx.html]
EUROPEAN LEVEL Our educative tactic (so called Noah initiative) is ordinary implemented in the framework of our school projects [coordinators site: https://legendplus.franceserv.eu/] but is also disseminated by the ILARGIA league as the "ad hoc" NGO wich published each year a review and has made an international symposium (at Saint jean de Luz or, two times, outsides: it was first implemented in Spain with the help of "ACESC" NGO (cathedratics of Catalunya) in 2019 then in Romania with the support of the INSPECTORATE OF CLUJ-NAPOCA in 2022 [report of Lectures: http://ilargia.franceserv.eu/articles-posts/ilargia-league-of-european-teachers].
    ADDED VALUE
The pedagogy that we promote is a pedagogy by objectives, declining general goals, then operational and observable goals, finally expected results - all allowing the implementation upstream of evaluation grids and schedules of execution and monitoring. It is centered on transdisciplinary and transnational tasks rather than interdisciplinary and international, insofar as it involves mobilizing diverse skills at the same time and not crossing results in a terminal phase and cooperating instead of working in national teams.Hard sciences and biology as well as geography, history and civic education are solicited: which moreover has the advantage of not excluding a priori any teacher or any class who would like to participate at least punctually to the tasks related to the project.
    CHARACTERS
    1. The Noah initiative is based on an original cooperation project (put into practice with E+A from 2017 to 2020 but also in other partnerships since then) which departs from certain comparative practices and does not propose a systematic inventory of the differences or similarities in the national traditions of each partner... an inventory supposed to define the contours of a hypothetical European identity, while we start from the principle that diversity is the basis of European civilization.
    2. It assigns the partners a practical objective (studying, designing, proposing ways to preserve biodiversity and live in harmony with the animal world) presuming to revisit history and myths and to combine creative imagination and scientific approach while by approaching philosophical notions.
    3. It presupposes ambitious intellectual work centered on simple means of expression and digital tools.
    4. It leads to a citizen approach and the formulation of rights (in particular: for animals) and duties for humans.
    5. Above all, it offers a human adventure in which incoming mobility plays an essential role..
    ETHIC COMPONENTS
The idea is to respond (in part) to the loss of meaning that tends to characterize highly specialized secondary education and may discourage learners, by deliberately introducing civic issues and a utopian dimension into our didactic practice. The well-being of learners and teachers is basically the priority and the results of the activities are assessed in particular according to this criterion, despite the program constraints that are necessary. The Noah initiative aims to strengthen the basic skills of students but also to give them more autonomy and confidence: in this perspective, it is a question of making them more lucid and responsible, as future citizens, in the face of challenges of resource management at a time of necessary transitions. In this context, inclusiveness is important; everybody must benefit.
Transfers from E+A (Noah) to other pedagogic actions is the only aim of the NOAH initiative.
First, we had implemented NUITS BLANCHES (KA2 Erasmus+) partnership (2015-2018) : the goal was "study old Fears to overcome Fears of nowadays" (myths, History and theatre) and we began at this point to think on risks of damage the Life. Following partnerships mixed science, literacy and arts: ERASMUSPLUSANIMALS 2017-2020 was the start of NOAH initiative and stay focused on "Biodiversity and ways to save it" (Biology, Geography, History, Philosophy, Cinema). QUINTESSENCE eVe+ 2020-2023 is centered on "sustainable energy production" but also the myths about the four elements (Physics, Biology,Geography, Civics, History and Drawings). TERRE DE LÉGENDES E+L.o.L. is devoted to common human values, with a management inspired by the NOAH initiative: but it is, moreover, a project originally conceived outside the method applied by the Lycée Ravel, which ensured its coordination on the proposal of its initiator. This establishes that the tools and the method developed within the framework of the NOAH initiative are aids but in no way represent a straitjacket from which we could not escape!
Concerning our KA2 management: some tools are available online for other project holders to use its or make similars?

    2. NON ACADEMIC SKILLS: ARTS AND CONVIVIALITY
sample of dissemination:Festival ILARGIA (theatre, dance and plantation of an apple tree after a night sarabande) http://ilargia.franceserv.eu/festival
1 The Noah initiative implements school projects valuing investigation and communication, and is based in particular on field surveys:
A local educational outing will be carried out during each of the quarters of the year. As well in the immediate vicinity of the school (pedestrian transport being the preferred mode of travel) then in the nearby area and /or in the wider region. The objective of these outings will be the study of biodiversity and other topics f the partnerships
2 The "reporting" of releases will be done by the students themselves, sometimes through the production of films.
    3. The activities in support of the project take place partly within the framework of traditional lessons (the professor in the position of lecturer facing the class) but are above all based on the use of innovative pedagogical strategies: including peer-to-peer learning peers. This means that the student can:
    - acquire new skills through trial and error (progressive validation of learning and formative assessment)
    - strengthen their spirit of mutual aid and collaboration (socio-cognitive skills, interpersonal skills)
    - learn by themselves and develop a certain independence (autonomy and critical thinking)
    - consolidate/build their communication and leadership skills (motivation, help in defining the personal project)
    - produce digital presentations of the slideshow type and distribute them (in front of his comrades and on the net).
    4. The partnerships implemented in the framework of the Noah initiative will oblige staff about their teaching methods, encouraging them to review them, improve them or even adapt them...
    5. International communication probably mean to use English (or Globlish) language but it coulb be a problem and inhibitate some of the participants , so playroles and contests will be done to free words [sample of a mini G7 summit http://nbeplus.franceserv.eu/miniG7.html] and drawings, corporal expression, subtitling and digital solutions be valorized.
    SCHOOL ISSUES
The internationalization of education is a priority, the implementation of the Noah initiative allows the Lyce Ravel to be deeply involved in this process and that all its students benefit from it, thanks to the Erasmus+ program (but also, for example, to the EUROSCOLA) instead of only bilingual and European classes being able to integrate transnational systems.
At the local level, the" Noah initiative" indirectly contributes to strengthening the solidarity of the two distinct schools grouped together in the eponymous Maurice Ravel school complex since the teams share the same interest in the development of international relations and foreign partners can work with each of the two schools. It was recently the case of Instituto Honori Garcia de la Vall d’Uixó.
At the regional level, we target two of the three objectives formulated in the academic project led by the rectorate of Bordeaux: accompany students to help them project themselves as citizens of the 21st century and strengthen the quality of life at work for staff and collaborative practices
    ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND ESTHETIC ISSUES
If EU wants to implement a “systemic modernisation across our economy, society and industry" in order to target the "net-zero greenhouse" goal, it means we need to suceed tomorrow in a big technologic transition and the mobilization of all the society: we prepare our students to find a job in the future Green Economy or even to create innovative activities decoupling economic growth from resource use. As a minima, they are aware of these subjects (knowing the resource challenge) and they benefit from the experiences of their counterparts (part of school partners are vocational ones and may be centered on economics, empathy and biology, graphic arts, and so on).
The Noah initiative accompanies a certain number of concrete practices developed within the Lycée on the front line of ideas: compulsory sorting of waste, recycling of waste paper, information on environment.
NOAH initiative helps to teach "everyday gestures" without generating any eco-stress but, on the contrary, gives students opportunities to strengthen their self-esteem.
    - Faced with the lack of coherence felt by students between lessons still organized in a very compartmentalized way(disciplinary): the existence of common projects promotes convergence and actually gives meaning to certain learning which, otherwise, appear without concrete purpose from the point of view of some pupils; scenarios and surveys on a transnational scale, within the framework of European cooperation, are very energizing and they stimulate the beneficiary pupils - especially those who are close to dropping out.
    - The cooperation promoted within the framework of the NOAH initiative improves confidence and autonomy on the part of learners, who are still too rarely placed in a situation of responsibility in the school setting, and sometimes insecure in their public speaking. The activities implemented as a team by Erasmus+ partners, in an international but reassuring and friendly setting, make it possible to restore the self-image of some learners and encourage them to participate more in lessons and in decision-making.
    - Recognition of non-academic skills and learner abilities, sometimes through specific certification systems (Youth pass, Europass, etc.) and the media coverage of productions promote the high school students and prepare them to assert their qualities in terms of employability and adaptability, in accordance with the orientation course defined by EU in terms of the convergence of education systems. Erasmus+ cooperation is also a means of promoting ICTE.
    - The initiative partly responds to the need for adaptation and training of teachers given a changing context. European mobility is also a means of observing and disseminating good practices (benevolent evaluations, welfare school),
Results of each pedagogic project fude by the EU are available
Equip learners and educators with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for a greener and more sustainable economy and society
help education and training institutions to integrate sustainability into teaching and learning
and across all aspects of their operations create a shared understanding on the deep and transformative changes needed in education and training for sustainability and the green transition.
