    Second Steampunk Life
Give a second chance your useless things . Sustainability in Steampunk style
Imagine a world where plastic, wood and metal are no longer used, and with the help of children and young people, they become works of art playing music, emitting light or moving through cities on wonderfully decorated old bicycles.
In essence, all those materials that usually appear in landfills or recycling plants can be used for creation.
My idea about a simple and aesthetic way to turn plastic, metal and wood waste into attractive works of art.

  • Description of the initiative
Obsolete lamps and old mechanisms are collected from waste management sites and dismantled with the help of children. This is how they develop their micro motor skills and the desire to find out what is hiding behind the covers of the old TV.
Children aged 9-12 make houses-lamps from plastic and wood parts.
Older 13-19-year-olds make speakers with an exclusive design from old televisions and other metal waste from household appliances. Restores and decorates old bicycles.

    Self-confidence
    Goals:
To popularize sustainability-based creativity among children and young people and adults.

I suggest that the participants bring items from home that they no longer use, and create from them:
    1. Remelius with an inspirational quote.
    2. Update old wall clocks.
    3. Make steampunk style players from old audio speakers.
    4. Tuning old bikes using various metal and plastic parts.
    5. Production of candlesticks.

All these activities develop an understanding of the valuable ability to conserve nature creatively.
The goal of the initiative is to surprise and show that completely insignificant details can become parts of a wonderful work of art. The activity greatly broadens people's horizons and aesthetic perception. Getting to know the steampunk culture is one of the advantages of this initiative. It is an opportunity to touch a completely unique activity and receive valuable cultural benefits.
In my experience, after conducting more than 200 sessions with storytelling and show elements, after surveying the participants, the first reaction was surprise, children and adults could not believe that real masterpieces of art can be born from garbage. A significant increase in self-confidence is noticeable.
The main goals of the initiative are related to involving as many schools and companies as possible to participate in the sustainability program through art and technical creativity.
Ukrainian, Art schools, youth with special needs and people who are not working or studying anywhere participated in the initiative project.
By participating in municipal projects aimed at promoting the culture of sustainability, the service becomes affordable for all participants.

The project was financed by Klaipėda Municipality and the European Social Fund Agency. So it was free for the participants as a pilot project.
An easy and interesting part of the introduction to the project.
Good job of Funding Organization and Municipality
Young people, children and adults who participated in the project will look at what they throw away at least twice more responsibly and consciously, use things that are no longer needed, use them for creative purposes and share new experiences with those around them.
The participants of the initiative, inspired by the activity, reviewed their habits of throwing things away, brought to the workshop what is no longer needed, and invited others to contribute to the dismantling of lamps and appliances.
The municipality of Klaipėda allocated funds for the implementation of the project on the creation of sound speakers and bicycles based on the principle of sustainability with young people aged 14-19 from Lithuania and Ukraine. "Steambike and Steamspeaker" project.
The European Social Fund Agency also funded the creation of bicycle restoration and steampunk-style bicycles together with out-of-school and unemployed youth and youth with disabilities.
Working in a team, helping each other, gained an understanding of three-dimensional object production. Ability to construct using various materials, basics of working with metal and wood, practice of painting and preparation for painting, development of micro motor skills.
The workshop visitors had a good experience getting to know different groups of young people and enjoying the common bond. Art school youth with disabled youth and unemployed youth.

Helping each other, they created speakers and bicycles together, which will later be sold in the online store.
    Creative approaches to waste management.
    Original production products.
The activity is based on Steampunk cultural values (product aesthetics)
Elements of this initiative can be used to:
    1. Connecting and integrating Ukrainian residents into urban communities through environmental management actions.

    2. Creative use of garbage collected in schools. Creating a school sustainability symbol.

    3. Using "mixed media" technology together with seniors to use unnecessary items at home for creativity.
    1. As I mentioned, the artistic creative methodology of "mixed media" is used when creating paintings.
    2. Technical creative methodology with the help of no longer needed items by connecting them to each other with a screw and with the help of self-tapping screws imitating ancient machines.
Educates members of society for a conscious approach to consumption.
Encourages the use of creativity as a sustainability tool to conserve nature and recycling.
To date, 7 bicycles and sound speakers have been made from more than 200 kilograms of metal, plastic and wood waste. 5 project participants earned money from bicycle production and another 15 participants are waiting for the sale of the created work.
    1. We will soon employ another employee in our organization.
    2. We plan to produce 7 electric bicycles.
    3. We will organize the Second Steampunk Sustainability Festival.
    4. We will participate with our products in various city organazed events.
This initiative is a practical combination of training youth work skills, earning opportunities and instilling in young people the understanding that unwanted items can gain value if they are given a second chance.
