  • Description of the concept
In order to advance green mobility POW IT focuses on promoting sustainable travel in leisure time. The idea is to conduct a survey in South Tyrol and ask locals but also tourists how public transportation can be improved in terms of outdoor sports (ski or bike transportation eg). We use the momentum of the POW EU mobility month in march `23 to collect as many results as possible. The second phase of the project is represented by an online but also offline campaign, advocating for sustainable travel in leisure time in the upcoming winter season(not only in South Tyrol but also in other regions of Italy). South Tyrol works as a best example in this case. The results from the survey will be used to create the content for the upcoming campaign.

The key objectives of the concept "Protect Our Winters" (POW) in terms of sustainability are to raise awareness and mobilize the outdoor sports community to take action on climate change. One way POW is working towards these objectives is by conducting a survey on the mobility behavior of outdoor sports enthusiasts. This survey aims to gather information on the modes of transportation used by the outdoor sports community and to identify areas where changes could be made to reduce their carbon footprint.

In terms of sustainability, the survey can be exemplary by providing valuable data that can be used to inform policy and decision-making on sustainable transportation. The survey results could also be used to engage the outdoor sports community in conversations about the impact of their mobility choices and to encourage them to make changes that align with their values and commitments to sustainability. Additionally, the survey results could be used to raise awareness about the importance of reducing carbon emissions from transportation and to inspire others in the outdoor sports community to take action.
The key objectives of the concept "Protect Our Winters Italy" in terms of aesthetics and quality of experience for people are to promote green mobility and to enhance the overall experience of outdoor sports enthusiasts. To achieve these objectives, Protect Our Winters Italy will be working closely with a highly experienced communication agency that specializes in promoting green mobility.

In terms of aesthetics, the communication agency will focus on creating visually appealing and engaging messaging that highlights the benefits of green mobility, such as reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality, and increased physical activity. The agency will also work to create a positive emotional connection between outdoor sports enthusiasts and green mobility by highlighting the enjoyment, adventure, and freedom that can be experienced through sustainable modes of transportation.

In terms of cultural benefits, the communication agency will aim to raise awareness about the cultural significance of outdoor sports and the importance of protecting the natural environments that support these activities. By working closely with the outdoor sports community, the agency will strive to create a culture that values and supports sustainable mobility choices.

Overall, Protect Our Winters Italy's collaboration with a highly experienced communication agency can be exemplary in this context by demonstrating how effective communication and design can be used to promote sustainable mobility and enhance the quality of experience for outdoor sports enthusiasts. By promoting green mobility in a positive and appealing way, Protect Our Winters Italy can inspire others to take action and make sustainable choices that protect the environment and support the enjoyment of outdoor sports.
The key objectives of the concept "Protect Our Winters Italy" (POW IT) in terms of inclusion are to ensure accessibility and affordability for all, to promote inclusive governing systems, and to consider design for all principles when addressing mobility in leisure time. To achieve these objectives, POW IT is focusing on understanding the mobility behavior and perceptions of citizens from deep in the valleys who are sometimes excluded. This will be achieved through interviews with these citizens to gather information on how they perceive their own mobility behavior and the behavior of others who visit their valleys.
By taking into account the perspectives and experiences of those who are often excluded, POW IT is working to ensure that mobility solutions are designed with everyone in mind, including those who live in remote or underserved areas. This can help to ensure that sustainable mobility options are accessible and affordable for all, regardless of their location or socio-economic status.
POW IT's approach to including the perspectives of citizens from deep in the valleys can be exemplary in this context by demonstrating the importance of considering the needs and experiences of all members of society when addressing mobility issues. By considering the perspectives of those who are often excluded, POW IT is working to create inclusive and equitable mobility solutions that benefit everyone. This approach can serve as a model for others looking to promote sustainable and inclusive mobility in their own communities.
This involvement takes place through POW IT's close collaboration with the office of mobility from the province. The goal of this collaboration is to ensure that the results of POW IT's survey on the mobility behavior of outdoor sports enthusiasts are taken into consideration when new infrastructure is being built and when new solutions for sustainable mobility are needed.

The involvement of citizens and civil society in the development of sustainable mobility solutions has a significant impact on the concept. This involvement helps to ensure that the solutions being developed are responsive to the needs and perspectives of those who will be using them. It also helps to build trust and support among the community for the solutions being proposed, which is important for their long-term success and adoption.

By working closely with the office of mobility from the province, POW IT is demonstrating the importance of involving stakeholders in the development of sustainable mobility solutions. This collaboration allows for a more comprehensive and inclusive approach to addressing mobility issues, which is crucial for achieving sustainable and equitable solutions. The impact of this involvement can be seen in the success of the solutions being implemented, as well as in the increased engagement and support from the community for sustainable mobility initiatives.
The stakeholders included skiing resorts, the university, and municipalities at a local level, as well as the province at a regional level.
The engagement of them added significant value to the concept by providing a range of perspectives and expertise that would not have been possible to achieve otherwise. The involvement of skiing resorts, for example, provided valuable insights into the mobility behavior of outdoor sports enthusiasts and the unique challenges they face. The collaboration with the university helped to ensure that the survey questionnaire was scientifically rigorous and that the results were reliable and accurate. And the collaboration with municipalities and the province allowed for a more comprehensive understanding of the mobility issues in the area and ensured that the results of the survey would be taken into consideration when new infrastructure was being built or when new solutions for sustainable mobility were needed.
The tight collaboration between POW IT and these various stakeholders also helped to create awareness about the importance of sustainable mobility throughout society. By working together, they were able to develop and implement solutions that were more responsive to the needs and perspectives of a range of stakeholders and that had the support and engagement of the community.
Overall, the engagement of different stakeholders at various levels in the design and development of the concept of POW IT was essential for ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to addressing mobility issues and for achieving sustainable and equitable solutions. The added value of their engagement can be seen in the success of the solutions being implemented and in the increased engagement and support from the community for sustainable mobility initiatives.
The design and development of the concept involved representatives from multiple disciplines and knowledge fields, including behavioral and ecological economics, communication, politics, and local mobility stakeholders.
POW IT worked closely with a behavioral and ecological economist from the University of Bolzano to ensure that the survey questionnaire was scientifically rigorous and that the results were reliable and accurate. This collaboration allowed for a better understanding of the motivations and behaviors behind mobility choices and helped to inform the design of sustainable mobility solutions.
The close collaboration with a communication agency was crucial for designing the assets and concepts for creating awareness about sustainable mobility. This collaboration allowed for the development of effective and engaging communication materials that reached a wide audience and helped to build support for sustainable mobility initiatives.
The interaction between politicians from various parties was important for ensuring that the solutions being developed were responsive to the needs and perspectives of a range of stakeholders and that they had the support and engagement of the community. This collaboration allowed for the development of solutions that were politically feasible and that could be implemented effectively.
Finally, the involvement of local mobility stakeholders, such as the mobility consortium, was essential for ensuring that the solutions being developed were informed by the experience and expertise of those who have a deep understanding of the local mobility landscape. This collaboration allowed for the development of solutions that were grounded in the realities of the local context and that could be implemented effectively.
Overall, the interaction between representatives from different disciplines and knowledge fields was essential for ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach.
The concept "Protect Our Winters Italy" (POW IT) is innovative in comparison to mainstream actions in the field of sustainable mobility in several ways. Firstly, the concept aims to reach both tourists and locals through its survey questionnaire, which is unique compared to other projects or incentives that typically focus on one group or the other. By including both groups in the survey, POW IT provides a more comprehensive understanding of mobility behavior in the region and helps to identify solutions that will benefit both locals and tourists.

Another key aspect of the innovation of the POW IT concept is its focus on the locals who are often the most affected by the impacts of unsustainable mobility practices. While many other initiatives focus on addressing the needs of tourists, POW IT is unique in that it prioritizes the perspectives and needs of the residents of the region. This focus on the needs of locals helps to ensure that the solutions developed are equitable and responsive to the needs of the community.

Finally, POW IT's close collaboration with local and regional stakeholders, including the mobility consortium and the university, allows for the development of solutions that are informed by the expertise and experience of those who have a deep understanding of the local context. This collaboration helps to ensure that the solutions being developed are effective, feasible, and grounded in the realities of the region.

In conclusion, the innovative character of the POW IT concept lies in its focus on both tourists and locals, its prioritization of the perspectives and needs of locals, and its close collaboration with local and regional stakeholders. These elements make the concept a unique and effective approach to addressing sustainable mobility issues and help to create equitable and sustainable solutions for the region.
The key elements of the project that could be replicated or transferred to other places, groups of beneficiaries, and contexts include:

Survey methodology: The survey questionnaire used by POW IT is a transferable and replicable tool that could be adapted for use in other regions or communities.
