Utopian flaws | Social media artivism
This artivism project invites you to discover the flaws inside our utopian building, representing our idilic European Union and the data of social injustices as flaws that crack that ideal. we'll see our flawless society in a metaphorical way through clean, spacious, and modern architecture (in our social media profile). This is what anyone will perceive at first, when we enter in these spaces we'll be able to see what this architecture is based on, infographics with data of social issues.

  • Description of the concept
In this project we'll see our flawless society, perfect and utopian. It will be shown in a metaphorical way through clean, spacious, bright, pure and modern architecture. This is what anyone will perceive at first, when we enter in these spaces we'll be able to see what this architecture is based on, we'll discover that the architectural elements are actually infographics with data.

These data are the representation of some issues and social injustice, they are showing us the flaws in this architecture, in our society, a flaw that breaks the perfect European Union ideal, we can read that perfection in its official "objectives and values".
My project tries to do a bit of justice in social media, because right now, some undemocratic people are using a dirty game creating fake news and lies to generate hate towards the weakest social groups. I want to counter them through their game but with the truth, an indisputable truth that the data give us from reliable sources.

My proposal will be a 3D digital art project that intervenes in the new "public" space, the social media Instagram and its context which promotes idealised images, being perfect for our utopian world and its critics.

    *SPOILER* (Main goal):
This project does not attempt to tear down the building of the European Union that we have been building for so many years because we have discovered the flaws in its foundations, instead, it seeks to repair those gaps together starting by sounding the alarm and letting them know, think together in solutions and demand them to the president of the neighbour community to fix them or vote for one of our neighbors who wants to solve it.
    Artivism
    Social media
Digital art (3D motion and new techs)
    Data
    Social issues
To develop this project I've carried out an investigation and a theoretical development, the relevant sections are:
    1. Utopia | Europe and Spain, dreamland, eurocentrism
    2. Flaws | Utopia imperfections
    3. Artivism | An essay as a digital artist
    3.1. Videoartivism
    5. Social media | The current "public" space
    4. Data | The data truth
    5. Digital art | Idyllic architecture
    6. Digital art | Hyperrealism and oddly satisfying or ASMR visual

I've developed the objectives based on this investigation, the relatives to sustainability are:

    - Utopian flaws must be environment respectful project with imperceptible environment impact:
Currently yes it is, because is a digital project and doesn't need any device of single use, we could watch this project in any device with internet, it will be in social media app (Instagram mainly). To develop the pieces I just need a computer with a few hours to render the images and months of work to develop the pieces (with imperceptible environment impact).

    - The topics to be developed, defended and reported must be the same or be inspired by the objectives and values of the European Union:
I've identified six necessary topics with enough data to develop their rooms, Energy poverty (already developed), Migration, Climate change, Gender equality, Economic inequality and Climate future. In this case, I want to develop two pieces to promote, defend and inform for renewable energy and be more environmentally respectful, being more sustainable (Climate change, and Climate future).
The aesthetic of the concept project is based on a community building, architectural, being familiar to everyone (because everyone live in a building and is part of a community, family, town, city, region, country, the european union), the kind of architecture I've developed is utopian architecture because I use a metaphor to link it with the European Union and its values, this kind of architecture are very popular and trend in Instagram because are very aligned for the social media philosophy "perfect life and its flawless contexts".

I've designed a dynamic game of discovery and metaphors, to generate interest in these unattractive topics for anyone in our society (because it breaks our bubble of Eurocentric happiness). I try to promote involvement and participation to talk about these issues in a more pleasant and warm way, among an engaged community. With each theme associated with each room, I want to build a building on our Instagram that represents the raw reality of the European Union. The people could discover the flaws by themselves interacting with the Instagram posts or reels, and getting more involved through the discover experience.

In this case, the objectives around the ascetics and the person experience are:

    - Achieve a professional ascetic using the 3D design and motion as the main tech.

    - Implement new techs as 3D motion, Augmented reality, Virtual reality and Social media.

    - Implement new techniques as Videoartivism, Oddly satisfying, Visual ASMR, ASMR, hyperrealism.

    - Implement the audio or music (including the foley) at the same level than the art direction and our utopian world.

    - Create a dynamic and discovery experience based on the social media (Instagram) context.

    - Encourage the participation of neighbors through different techniques such as the creation of stories, questions, debates, a sense of belonging and community.
Utopian flaws is a social media artivism project that promotes and seeks to include all people with a device and use social media. Encouraging to share our pieces and data with any user who has a device and may like the project or is not familiar with the data and can provide objective veracity to their opinion and political discourse.

Our voice, our communication, will be warm, human, ironic, close, simple, non-elitist and, above all, transparent. We will even have intimate moments speaking without metaphors to the viewer, being clear and honest. To avoid misunderstandings, manipulation or lies.

I use the data from a reliable sources and I keep it visible to be transparent and neutral such as "europa.eu/eurostat".

    The objectives are:

    - Expose the objective truth provided by the data.

    - Give importance to the source of information to encourage reliability and demand it in other articles or news.
This project intervenes in the new "public" space, the social media Instagram and its context which promotes idealised images, being perfect for our utopian world and its critics. I've designed a dynamic game of discovery and metaphors, to generate interest in these unattractive topics for anyone in our society (because it breaks our bubble of Eurocentric happiness). I try to promote involvement and participation to talk about these issues in a more pleasant and warm way, among an engaged community.

We'll try to make the viewer participate with questions that intend not to leave anyone indifferent, encouraging personal reflections, comments and proposals to try to fix these flaws (solve these issues that suffer our society). In the best of cases it will generate debates and exchange of ideas from our neighbours (followers) brainstorming ideas among themselves around these issues that never have the media focus and go unnoticed. Based on these ideas, the neighbors will demand solutions from our president of the neighbour community to fix them.

I want to encourage the sense of belonging to the European Union and give some tools to the neighbors to protest and be a speaker, ensuring that the objectives and values of the European Union are respected, truly being the flag in which we can all take refuge (including the weakest).
Utopian flaws is a non-profit project and continues to develop, keeping alive and adapting to its neighbors and its demands. Until now I have worked on my own in the creation of the project, the brand and the first room, but, for the next rooms I'm looking for funding to be sustainable and collaborators/artists who are interested to collaborate in the project.

I've based ourselves on the idyllic European Union values established on its website to generate the visual identity, I have selected a suitable typeface, very human, social, modern and progressive. As a result of the typography and isotype, I've created some pictograms for thematic sections.

I've decided to continue with the architectural metaphor because is one of the project pillars and I designed the isotype based on the typography, a window, linking the curious gaze that sneaks through the window looking to discover something interesting, in our case, being able to see the hidden data (flaws), seeing through our gaze.
I have mix three main disciplines to create this project, the design, the art and the journalism. I've had to experiment, research and learn a lot to merge those three disciplines successfully, the main investigations in those disciplines were:
Data design, 3D design, Branding, Animation, Advertising campaign, Editorial, Art, Activism, Artivism, Data and Journalistic approach.

This artivism project uses the design as a vehicle to denounce the injustices that occur in our society, it's trying to focus on these problems with data. This proposal takes the design out of the comfort zone as it merges different branches of design without having a client, it's crossing the line between journalism, art and design which many people avoid and debate, no matter what box you put it in, it has both sides being clearly artivism.
I've developed a 3D motion pieces with professional quality, creating unique audiovisuals by implementing new techs (3D motion, Augmented reality, Virtual reality and Social media) and new experimental techniques (Videoartivism, Oddly satisfying, Visual ASMR, ASMR, hyperrealism). The AR and VR experiences are yet to be developed but I want to implement it if I get enough funding.

The proposal itself is unique because most of the artivism project is based on the public space (where it was born), this proposal identifies the social media as the new "public space" (as do other artists and articles). I don't know any social media artivism project based on the European Union, either in defend its values with an independent critic.

My project tries to do a bit of justice in social media, because right now, some undemocratic people are using a dirty game creating fake news and lies to generate hate towards the weakest social groups. I want to counter them through their game but with the truth, an indisputable truth that the data give us from reliable sources, it will be hard to doubt the data veracity because the official source will be visible to consult it.
This project or concept could be replicated in different ways:

    - Tech. Same project as it is, but, extrapolate to new technology, such as virtual reality the people could explore the flaws inside a room with a virtual reality device. Or augmented reality, exploring the flaws interacting with their architectural objects from their houses. If I find enough funding, I'd like to experiment with it and implement it in some rooms.

    - Physical. It could be replicated in the physical world in expositions or in the real public space with screens, projections or, in the best of the cases, with real architectural elements incorporating the data it represents.

    - Project. We could replicate this concept with other project, we can change the European Union injusticies to another kind of data disclosure, for example, we could just focus on disclosure of environmental data and we should find another way to represent it (not architectural, in this case should be based on environmental).

    - Experience. We could implement this concept in another form of experience, for example, in a dynamic game for children to discover different data in a real room by doing a puzzle or escape room. In this case we adapt the concept to young children and their context (they don't use social media, but they will use it and they must be prepared for it), educate them in the same way, artivism, and most of the objects remain valid.
We will propose a metaphorical code between the users and us, we want to communicate in the environment of a neighbors community where we all try to fix the problems of our building for the common good, where all the users are neighbors being at the same level and the community manager (me) is the concierge (I'm at the service of the neighbors). To look inside our building we will have to do it through our profile, our look, a curious look, a look that looks curiously through the window.

Thanks to the data, the neighbors will debate what is the best way to fix the flaws inside the rooms, to demand our community president to repair it, we would like to take care of our building, we would like to fix the flaws in our building, in our European Union.

This will be our "local" solutions to implement them in our global goal, the European Union (and each country of it). We would like to be a close community, encouraged and warm (though we are so far from each other), but, each of us share a common place, the European Union.
