  • Description of the project
    the boys and girls of the Chiara Lazzaro kindergarten of ISPICA tried their hand at giving a touch of color to the square in front of the school. The boys and girls coordinated by the teachers of the complex and with the collaboration of some parents had fun giving color to the games on the floor and showed all their commitment to this activity which makes them PROTAGONISTS of change. In fact, the activities referred to "Progetto Insieme si può" which develops a path of civic education, cooperation, environmental sustainability and inclusiveness, essential pillars for good teaching, is also connected to the "Childish Art" Etwinning Project for the artistic part and to the "Non ti scordar di me" by Legambiente to improve and beautify the spaces around us. With reference to the objectives of the 2030 AGENDA, boys and girls enter into a relationship with the territory, develop a civic and collaborative sense that makes them aware and competent in a significant experience of active citizenship.
    Inspired by some artists, the boys and girls will complete the walls of via della pittura with the reproduction of some works.
    This experience will leave a significant imprint, which the children will keep in their minds and souls, as a didactic experience that has allowed the development of multidisciplinary skills and abilities in a playful learning context.

    EDUCATING BEAUTIFUL, AESTHETICS AND QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
    The activities related to the project have developed a path of civic education, cooperation, environmental sustainability and inclusiveness, fundamental elements for good teaching and good practices that are linked to the Etwinning Project "Childish Art" for the artistic part of the project "We Geography too ” for the knowledge of our territory, to the “Coloriamo” project for the discovery of primary colors and to the “Non ti scordar di me” project by Legambiente to improve and beautify the spaces around us. The teachers Calvo Antonella Armenia Maria, Manuela Sarta, Donatella Andolina, Caldini Natalina, Loredana Branca, Antonella Milana, Gugliotta Roberta, and Rosa Maria Monaca referent of the project INSIEME SI PUÒ, collaborated to carry out a common project and gave back to the city a place also usable by other citizens, completely renovated and colorful which saw the boys and girls of all sections of the complex as active protagonists and the parents who took turns with constancy and perseverance collaborating until the end, in all the activities. In addition to these activities, we cleaned up the flower beds around the square and planted a cutting from the Falcone tree, an almond tree, seedlings and flowers to encourage pollination.
    With reference to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, everyone has entered into a relationship with the territory, they have acquired a civic and collaborative sense for a significant experience of Active Citizenship, a civic sense that we hope will spread as a good essence and that everyone can contribute to maintain the square in via della pittura, always beautiful and welcoming, honored with the works of art of famous artists, including Britto who with his simple colors and designs instills joy and creativity and Keith Harring who expresses social issues with his art and made it accessible to everyone. The children followed specific paths in the section, familiarizing themselves with the colours, with the various artistic techniques, shared on the Etwinning platform with other children from different countries, they acquired knowledge about the artists by making posters and images for other Carnival events and other occasions and then this knowledge they have been transferred outside by creating murals of good effect and with proactive messages, applying an OUTDOOR EDUCATION didactic in collaboration with the parents. The enthusiasm and emotions of seeing and experiencing THE CHANGE of a gray and forgotten place, in a space full of color, has favored the connection with the surrounding area and the use of this place not only by our children but also by the inhabitants of the neighborhood. Furthermore, the boys who were the major users of the place, feel obliged to respect the work of our children, maintaining a certain decorum. All this develops self-esteem and confidence in one's own abilities and in cooperation and respect for a common good.
    The key words that link the project are three TOGETHER WE CAN - RESPECT - FREEDOM

    TRANSFORMED AN IDEA INTO A REALIZATION THAT HAS NOT REMAINED UTOPIA, BUT CONCRETENESS!
    A PUBLIC SPACE HAS BEEN BEAUTIFUL, COMPLETELY CHANGING ITS ORIGINAL APPEARANCE!
    In a small square located in via della pittura on the corner with via dell'Architettura, our children could not
    be the ACTIVE PROTAGONISTS of this change.
    NO ONE IS TOO LITTLE TO CHANGE THE WORLD!
    RESPECT: In this contemporary society, respect will have to be re-evaluated somewhat by educating to respect
    rules and civil coexistence, everyone learning to do their part.
    FREEDOM: another word of great significance, because if we benefit from this condition today it is because who
    preceded us fought for this conquest.
    Great credit goes to Judge Giovanni Falcone who fought to defeat an invisible enemy. We
    today we remember him by planting a small cutting of the Falcone tree in the hope of making it grow
    the legality as well as these children who will be FUTURE CITIZENS will grow up.
    Ours is an ETWINNING SCHOOL and with this project we have given our contribution towards
    the internationalization of European schools and we addressed the issues of the ERASMUS+ programme
    2021/2027.

    The project idea was able to transform and make it concrete, thanks to the availability of different subjects. The Municipality, owner of the place, allowed to proceed with the embellishment of the square, providing its approval, the merchants offered the colors suitable for painting outside, the teachers and the children developed the educational-cognitive path and prepared all the spaces to be decorated by arranging the various drafts, the parents with good artistic skills made the drawings and collaborated with the children and teachers for the painting, educating the conservation of the material and not to waste it. The involvement of parents who had not taken part in the project took place with the story and enthusiasm transmitted by their children and other parents, who lived the experience favorably and the children greatly appreciated the help of their parents who contributed to this beautiful result. This space has become our open-air theater, all our events take place in our little square, and yes, because with this intervention we all feel a little bit ours!

    The design and implementation was mainly managed and managed by the teachers who planned workshops scheduled with the availability of the parents and the weather. The kindergarten has little possibility of accessing national funds and the availability of artisans-dads/grandparents, artists and us teachers and children, has meant that everyone has contributed to the realization of a common project. The evident and impressive result has stimulated the interest and curiosity of other schools and other sectors. who, following in our footsteps and taking us as a model, have thought of creating other similar works and involving different subjects. As in an orchestra we have provided the "A" to promote ACTIVE AND CONSCIOUS CITIZENSHIP.
    The multidisciplinary planning involved all fields of experience and the activities carried out aim at creating in the child his own identity, in relation with the other, with a view to developing an empathetic attitude and a good ability to express his emotions and sensation. All this aimed at developing a critical sense and transversal skills for the achievement of the EUROPEAN KEY SKILLS. The results achieved were obtained by applying different methodologies such as Circle-time, Cooperative Learning, Learning by Doing Peer Education, Laboratory teaching, Problem Solving making the child an active participant in his growth and learning process.
    In the presence of the Headmaster of the Leonardo da Vinci Comprehensive Institute of Ispica, Dr. Rosaria Maltese, the Mayor Innocenzo Leontini, the Councilor for Public Education, Prof. Franzò Lucia, the Arch. Anna Ali, president of the Legambiente Sikelion Circle of Ispica and of the Captain of the Carabinieri Company of Modica Achille Curcio, of the Lieutenant Lorenzo Cazzin of the Carabinieri Station of Ispica of the other institutional authorities we welcomed the Marshal of the Carabinieri of the Agrigento Nature Anti-Crime Center Cinquemani Giuseppe, to proceed with the planting of the cutting of the 'Albero di Falcone - Tree of Legality which will represent the emblem of the conclusion of the project "TOGETHER WE CAN". In this event, the children were the active protagonists of the creation of the works and of the planting activities of the small cutting that passed from the hands of the Captain to that of the children to be planted. The children saw in the figure of the Carabinieri a positive figure of help and collaboration.In a second moment the almond tree was planted in collaboration with the Sikelion club of Legambiente. With the playful aspect and with songs, the children transmitted the concepts learned, they characterized the final event, feeling important for this goal achieved. The accompaniment of a part of the orchestra of our Institute has fostered interest in learning aimed at a good cause, as well as the participation of the students of the Istituto Superiore G. Curcio in the hotel sector who, showing their skills under the guided by their teachers, they offered a tasting of ice cream and drinks made with local products and at KMZERO demonstrating the sense of doing business. Motivation to learn is encouraged.
    OUTDOOR teaching is mainly experiential and experimental learning, strongly linked to the environment and reality with curricular and non-curricular activities carried out in contact with nature. This innovative didactic activity outside the school walls, appreciating the air, the sun, the light, the shade, the plants and the butterflies that get close to our painted flowers and our real flowers, offers a further chance for cognitive development for each baby. Outdoor teaching develops practical and organizational skills, ability to adapt, improvisation and experimentation, observation of small changes in the elements of nature, taking care of natural elements and the ability to manage difficulties and obstacles by learning to do squad. Every day, going to school, I walk along the square and I am filled with joy, thinking of all the figures involved and the beautiful result and I say: "we did a really good job"!!
    The 2030 AGENDA brings together the commitment of various nations to guarantee a better present and future for our planet and for the people who inhabit it in harmony with nature. The civic education envisaged in the school curriculum plans to address social and environmental issues with educational-didactic practices for a school that seeks to project itself into the future. In order to better understand these not exactly simple concepts, young children need understandable and clear language and experience concrete examples that help them fix the concepts of Active Citizenship in their memory and soul. One of the methodologies applied is Learning by doing, and other methodologies listed in the previous paragraph. Learning does not mean passively receiving notions, but actively developing ideas and interacting with the world.
    Due to its versatile characteristics, the project can be replicated in other places and the beneficiaries can also be students of other school levels by calibrating objectives and activities based on age and inserted in the local and specific context after evaluating the needs analysis. As for kindergarten, the proposed methodologies can also be applied with school children of different grades with the advantage that being older and more autonomous, also from a technological point of view, I can obtain different results and promote the initiatives personally with the channels more suitable for children. Collaborative and active learning undoubtedly excites more and is more profitable than the transmission of news in a passive form.
    With the appropriate modifications, the project can also be applied in contexts outside the school, for example Volunteer Associations, Bodies and the Third Sector available in the area. Our project has been recognized as a quality project by obtaining a Quality Label from Etwinning/Indire and has been presented as a good activity carried out by girls and boys at the Provincial UNICEF
    The "Leonardo da Vinci" Comprehensive Institute of Ispica has joined the Civic Education project promoted by Unicef ​​entitled "School friend of girls, children and adolescents". The closing ceremony was held on Monday 6 June 2022, in the elegant setting of Palazzo Spadaro in Scicli. With the "Insieme si può" project it was possible to embellish and give new life to the gray square in front of the "Chiara Lazzaro" complex thanks to the creation of paintings and games on the ground, made by children with the help of teachers, parents and grandparents; the project involved kindergarten children and developed a course of civic education linked to active citizenship and environmental sustainability.
    After this project it would be nice to proceed with activities aimed at improving environmental practices. We will continue to promote activities in contact with nature and its conservation, but the greatest ambition would be to make our contribution to the ecological transition and be able to install a small wind turbine or solar panels on our veranda in the south-facing wall where The sun always beats to supply energy to our school and to the adjacent G. Curcio Higher Institute, perhaps forming a network of schools. Furthermore, within the school of my dreams we would like to create a nice non-fixed cover in our veranda to use the space as an extension of the section for small outdoor activities and to protect us from the really hot sun and embellish it with wooden planters and suitable plants of which to take care of. Geographically we are located on the southernmost meridian of Tunis.
    To achieve all this, however, funds of a certain size and the involvement of technicians are needed. We don't miss the spirit…
