The topic of design concerns supplementing the development by inscribing the infill building with utility functions related to the context of the place, which is Nadodrze in Wrocław. The main objective of the design is to create a space that will enable the integration and regeneration of the inhabitants of the Nadodrze district. The concept of the project focuses on integrating residents while ensuring contact with nature.

The key objectives of the project are the identity of the place and connection to nature. The first one was met by placing specific features on first few storeys. The ground floor contains a vernissage room which could be easily extended to the outside area. The first floor consists of a drawing school which can be frequented by people of all ages and abilities. The second floor holds a workshop which could be used as a working space. The third and fourth floor contains flats, for people without disabilities and for the disabled accordingly. The fifth floor is an usable roof which can be accesed by anyone. The second objective - nature - is met by placement of the plant system on the front and rear façades and the use of an intensive roof on the top floor. Additionally, the area the space around the building has been revitalized to increase the level of biologically active space. The features listed above have contributed to increase the attractiveness of the place, which will encourage people from the street to go inside and explore what the building consists of. In addition, because of the solutions used in the design the heat island will be reduced and this will have a positive impact on the ecosystem because the level of biodiversity will increase.
As my main premise is the identity of the place, the project is a response to the search for one's place in society. The issue is solved by providing space which will bring together people from different backgrounds, calling for creative activities at the same time. The design allows the development of artistic passions and share them with the outside world as the building contains a drawing school and rooms for vernissages.
The project is designed barrier-free and for people from all backgrounds which includes the elderly and people with disabilities. The building includes a group of apartments that are adapted to these social groups by appropriate distance and mobility.
The designed facility is consistent with the context of the place inhabited by a large social group focused around various fields of art and its derivatives. The building has residential and service functions, which allows for interaction between the residents, the employee and the creation of a common community. In addition, the very function of the services refers to the context of the area and is strictly related to the profession of the local residents of the neighboring buildings. This proves the social identity of the developed area.
As the project is a diploma thesis, my promoter was a secondary person involved in the project process. This allowed me to highlight the important role of greenery in the area that is poor in it and to introduce aesthetic and functional infrastructure.
The project develops solutions that have a positive impact on the environment and those regarding context of the place and its cultural aspects. Both those fields lead to improvement of the area by creating a safe and creative space where anybody is welcomed. Residents are able to create things on paper and also by growing plants which are present in the façade. The building is also a link between the human and the unknown because of its connection with the outside world - the ground floor is a vast example of that idea since it contains openwork walls and the floor is an extension of the area outside. Those features create a sense of tranquility and relaxation which is desirable in the middle of a city.
The building is inscribed in the context of the place, so it is also unique in its own location. The project responds to the need to have a place connecting the residents of the estate. These features provides that the concept has its own character and responds to the needs of the local residents.
As the project is based on spreading knowledge about art and provides workshops conducted in this respect, the idea can be easily shared among other locations on a condition that it will be useful and helpful. The way the functions are organised in the building can also be transferred since they are based on accessibility and the separation of the living area and public area.
The project contains a few solutions which contribute to the protection of the environment. For example, the key part of the façade is a system of vertical plants placed behind the glass coating. It consists of movable panels that can be freely rotated. In addition, it is believed that the assurance empty space between greenery and wall surfaces by using the distance between living walls and building wall surfaces can improve the performance of living walls. Niche protects the wall against the retention of leaves and rotting, moreover, it acts as a sunscreen and limits it heat transfer. The distance between the system and the wall, which is 1 meter in the design, allows for free flow of these processes. The solution lead to the prevention of urban heat island which is is prevalent in this area.
