Revoluto is a project formulated under the concept of connecting people with nature. It unites and revitalizes the different green areas of Madrid's forest belt, generating community through educational programmes where citizens can immerse themselves in the natural environment composed of biomaterials. These biomaterials have been baked specifically for this project, creating unique structures from organic resources such as algae or eggshells.
The aim is to learn from our forests and teach citizens how to optimise the resources offered by the local flora and how to reuse organic waste in order to build new structures, all in a plan that has no impact on the environment.

In terms of the sustainability of the project, the three SDGs have been taken into account throughout the development: climate action, sustainable cities and health and wellness.
Revoluto is a project designed to have as little impact as possible on the land where it is installed, so our goal is to generate as little carbon footprint as possible, using the entire bamboo walkway system. bamboo is a renewable material, which offers the possibility of lowering the ecological footprint of buildings, which is important for this project. An initiative has been created to collect organic waste such as eggshells and orange peels to take them to the urban laboratory, grind them and generate new materials. This system would work with a system of bins installed in restaurants, housing developments, supermarkets and hospitals that are willing to donate their organic waste, so that once a week, they are collected and taken to Revoluto to generate new materials.
On the other hand, the choice of low-cost and emission-free materials makes this project 95% sustainable.
It should be noted that a whole lighting system has also been installed, consisting of solar and lunar collectors created by Rawlemon energy designers, which in addition to capturing sunlight, are capable of concentrating the diffuse light of the moon into a constant source of energy. This energy is stored and used to light the LED system that houses the walkway and consists of motion sensors that are activated with the passage of users to generate the least possible light pollution.
And with respect to the environmental impact of the city, we would be reducing pollution by around 5% by decongesting the urban center. The biomaterials that have been generated have a great environmental impact, as they reinforce the idea of sustainable biodegradable construction.
Revoluto is an installation that intervenes in the forests formed by a walkway that has different heights in which a series of programs are installed.
These programs are tuin, aloqa balai and ozo. Four interactive spaces that seek to revitalize the green spaces and emerge in harmony with the forms of nature, generating organic and fluid paths.
Aesthetically the project seeks to camouflage with the surrounding nature through organic forms and materials that evoke a dreamlike landscape. All this generates a spectacle of figures, shapes and colors that evoke a flying city where Revoluto is an immersive experience where the user, when entering these spaces, acquires new knowledge and learning by connecting with its local flora.
In terms of inclusion,a detailed budget has been prepared with the help professionals in the field, that demostrated that this project is tangible and accessible.

Revoluto costs around six million euros to build, a much lower cost than a traditional construction, since it responds to a circular economy where waste is reduced to a minimum, renewable energy is used and water is managed in harmony with nature and common resources, with the intention of generating a conscious economy with the lowest possible impact.According to Saskia Sassen, we have created more than 100,000 new chemicals since the industrial revolution. Buildings emit 56% of total emissions according to the EC. The project is based on creating a very efficient environment, with renewable and recyclable materials such as bamboo, without toxics, which seeks to optimize natural resources by reducing the carbon footprint of cities, in a real and tangible way.
Revoluto rethinks the new relationships between citizens, transforming social relations and involving everyone in a large community around nature where we learn from each other and help each other so that the project works and society works. The aim is to connect people with the nature of their cities and give life to urban green spaces through an educational program that generates community.
The main problem analyzed in this project is urban overpopulation. Cities are becoming increasingly overcrowded and are growing at an accelerated pace, which is generating totally congested urban centers. According to a study conducted by the united nations: the world’s population has increased from 751 million in 1950 to 4.2 Billion in 2018. In fact it is expected that by 2050 two thirds of humanity is expected to be housed in megacities.
How is this problem being addressed? Well, according to the sustainable development goals, governments are committing themselves to making the communities of the future sustainable, so they are creating programs to implement green areas in cities to improve the quality of life of people and incorporate nature into our way of life and decongest the urban center. In madrid, for example, the metropolitan forest project is being developed with the aim of re-naturalizing the urban center. However, more than 60% of the population has insufficient access to green spaces or is unaware of their existence, turning these new green areas into hostile places or places of passage.
This is where revoluto comes in: a project that seeks to connect people with the nature of their city by de-naturalizing the urban centers. The goal of this project is to create a program to activate urban green spaces so that people can reconnect with their natural environment and create healthier and more sustainable cities.
My design is focused on all citizens of the big city who want to get out of their habitat and need a space to stop, observe and reflect.the lifestyle of citizens is becoming more and more accelerated due to the pace at which we move the city.all the habits that people adopt impact on their emotional life and health,so it is important to learn to take time to reflect and get another perspective.
The main user of Revoluto are those people who want to learn from the natural environment of their city and seek to generate interconnections and community with other citizens.Other stakeholders to consider include young people and children between the ages of 4 and 18 who attend school, as it is a didactic place in the forest, making it the ideal environment to really learn about nature.
Among other relevant users, we find professionals in various fields such as botany or ecology, who need a space where they can give talks and workshops.
At the European level, this project will target the cities participating in the Urban Forest development project, including Barcelona, Brussels, Gelsenkirchen, Krakow, Leipzig-Halle, Ljubljana, Oslo, Turin, Frankfurt and Geneva.
The project aims to give visibility to the multiple benefits that urban forests provide to the society living in cities and how through this nature we can build a project that helps us to connect as a community.
The main discipline applied in Revoluto is the sustainable architecture trough homemade biomaterials, challenging the tradicioanl way of construction.
A very important part of Revoluto as a vision for the future, is to be able to count on artists and architects who are experts in biomaterials, not only to advise on the project, but also to generate new innovative and groundbreaking structures under the idea of a cooperative project that is in constant movement. Although it is true that it has been generated as an individual project, from the initial moment of ideation it has had the help of the Spanish architect Maria Mallo who has advised on the creation of the 4 envelopes that surround the four main spaces that make up the walkway. It is also worth mentioning that these materials have been cooked and prepared little by little by the hand of IED Madrid in the Super Hard Skills workshops, where during nine weeks we have been experimenting with different materials to test which would be the most suitable structures for Revoluto.
ORIGINALITY CONSISTS IN THE RETURN TO THE ORIGIN, THUS, ORIGINALITY IS THAT WHICH RETURNS TO THE SIMPLICITY OF THE FIRST SOLUTIONS"- GUADÍ.
According to Gaudí, the most effective way to solve problems is to look to nature, which will give us the answers. This is the inspiration for the Revoluto project, a project that aims to connect people with local nature through installations in the woods that encourage cooperativity, experimentation and development.
The value proposition of this project is to generate programs in forests that have become hostile places, connecting citizens with their local green areas. All this consists of a whole immersive experience where the user goes through 4 typologies of spaces acquiring new knowledge and learning by connecting with their local flora.
The innovative character of Revoluto consists of creating continuity around the different forests of Madrid, generating a large community around nature. It differs from other similar projects in that we are not creating a static installation for the forests, but it is a very dynamic project where the citizen learns from the forests of his city, and can go through the different walkways of revoluto experimenting with different resources.
The most innovative aspect of this project is that it is a whole system of circular architecture in which the user creates a fundamental role, not only to go to revoluto to observe, but to participate, learn from the methodology of work and then apply it in everyday life, recycle to build and involve citizens in this whole initiative of waste collection where it is essential to learn the values of recycling, since in this way we can change the future of society.
Learning to optimize the natural resources of our environment to create, this is the key element that goes beyond the architectural field.
In the case of Revoluto, for the enveloping structures, research was done on biomaterials, biodegradable structures that are created from organic waste. We learned to cook samples of the materials such as agar, starch or gelatin that would make up these structures. The advantage of these materials is that they are very economical and easy to produce, and with different binders we can obtain finishes of all kinds. Building with these materials is a challenge, but it is also the future, since little by little we will be getting rid of the traditional materials, this experimentation goes beyond the architectural field. This design methodology can be applied to the field of fashion, interior design, product design... Generating new sustainable materials that raise awareness of the society in which we live.
For Revoluto, different phases of expansion have been planned that aim to create a large green community network around European forests. In the first phase, the project consists of expanding at a local level. In the case of Madrid, the thread will extend throughout the green arc, creating a large walkway that will link the different green areas of Madrid, creating a community network dedicated to health and wellbeing.
In this second phase, the project is to expand nationally. As soon as the project in Madrid works, the thread will be extended to other Spanish cities, including Barcelona (European City of the Forest in 2022).
Santiago, Seville, Bilbao... The dynamics of Revoluto on this scale, works in the same way as the Madrid project, going through the green arches of the cities linking the different urban forests. In this way, a large Spanish network of green areas will be created that can be walked through and enjoyed while learning from them.
The third phase of the project consists of international expansion. The aim is to create a large green network through the main European green capitals. The urban thread will change according to the typology of each city, but fulfilling the same objective of creating a green network that creates community through urban green spaces, generating more sustainable and healthy cities.
