  • Description of the project
Civic Places is a cultural and communication project, created by Fondazione Italia Sociale, a national foundation designed to raise private fundings towards non profit sector. Thanks to Civic Places we find some of the most inclusive, sustainable and beautiful Italian places. Spots not only phisycal: where you can realize yourself, improve your community and local area.
The project matches people with places and territories. Good practices spilled over the country should deliver an increase in wealth and health, in a virtuous circle.
With this project we hopep to build a network inspired by the same key words of the New European Bauhaus.

Be sustainable, respect and protect the enviroment and animals living in, find a way to bring nature back.
These are some of the criteria the jury of the project took into account to choose 76 places out of a list with more than 200 applicants. Given that, sustainability in a wider meaning is a key to be defined civic.
Civic places also try to build a good worthy network to be part of, with no impacts on environment. More over the final aim to matches people and places has zero climate costs: in fact increase the capability of these places of being self-support in respect of nature.
On another hand Pnrr , Green Deal and Neb are offering a chance to re think and re build the whole urban planning process. We can be considered a good practice that can be repeated over time and places.
The beauty of a place is also in its civic value. Is a value to be a community where local people can express themselves. Inhabitants are living a creative, artistic and sustainable season in which they can regain possession of their places. Towards renovation and refurnishment places and people rebirth together with their area. Civic Places tells stories with the power to change territories and people's lives. Good places in terms of aesthetics and urban quality deliver well-ness in those who live there, improving their lifes and the neighborhood: a virtuous circle that can deliver enormous advantages to everyone.
It's civic commitment to create inclusive places. Each of the 76 Civic Places selected bring their own story of inclusion. From migrants football team to NEET activities (young neither in employment nor in education and training), from assistance to people with disabilities to social service for human trafficking victims.
We can offer 76 different ways to be inclusive, whatever this word can mean.
Plus, Civic places are called also "our places or an expression of us", because of the feeling of inclusion they can transmit.
A circle is virtuous when its everybody circle.
Citizens have been included from moment one. They had the chance to submit their heart place, they place they work for, the place where they live, their favourite spots, park or building.
They had to help us pointing, showing and submitting whatever place they think its civic. With their suggestions we then selected 76 civic places and build a digital map to find them all.
Now citizens can visit and support beautiful places, delivering a virtuous economic circle. Also citizens were invited to the presentation of a book dedicated to the places that counts for our well being and for our society.
Touring Club Italiano and Fondazione Adriano Olivetti where invited to be part of the final jury with Fondazione Italia Sociale, because of their committment in the non profit italian sector. They were responsible of choosing the listed 76 civic places.
Sec Newgate and ArteficeGroup helped us as media partners. They are big communications agencies who worked pro-bono and design us a communication strategy. Italo trains and Sky TV have been involved as communication partners: they support us by reaching their communities to foster tourism and donations.
You can find our digital map in Stendhapp, the italian app for tourism and culture inspired by the Stendhal syndrome.
    Civism, civic commitment and values.
Communication and graphics skills for awareness: let people know of the project.
Education and advocacy as kwoledge field to start civic activities.
Design and architecture to better undestand how to build a sense of community through buildings, streets and places.
All these branches were needed to build a project with the aim of discovering places in Italy where, history, beauty, inclusion and sustainability find home. Naturally related to each others, all these disciplines where find also in some of the place we met.
We opened a big national call where more than 200 places applied. It lasted 3 months, then we selected 76 final civic places. We realized the first digital map where we put all these places together.
We create a big digital community using our website, social networks and our media partners tools. We reached out more than 20.000 people.
    The indirect beneficiaries are uncountable.

We wrote and published 9 books to find the meaning of being civic.
We created a podcast where we invite philosophers, actors, writers, politicians, youth to discuss what civism is.
We build the first digital map of italian civic places ever. We give these realities the possibility to crowdfund, to improve, to be known. We give Italians and tourists the chance to know inclusive, beautiful and civic places, where they can support, volunteer, participate and feel better.
You can find the map on our webiste or by downloading Stedhapp.
We hand over the map also to Sergio Mattarella, President of the Republic.
We shared the national call on our website, newsletter and social media. We were helped by our partners to reach a broader community.
By filling a form online, the places submitted their application and after 3 months, a jury composed of 3 well known non profit organizations selected the final 76 places.
Then we build a network: we did video calls, emails, communication activities and events to present this project to all: other participants, local citizens, institutions and companies.
All. The beauty and innovative point of this project is that it can be replicated or transferred to other countries, places or groups of beneficiaries.
Once implemented rules and metholodology for the call and final jury, you raise awareness and realize how many places, big or small, are civics.
Places more inclusive, accessible and beautiful. Local solutions can be managed more easily than global ones. The advantage is that this project could be replicates at every local level and in every country. The project is in line with some of the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda.
From local to global, this project helps in reducing poverty, inequality, to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.
