  • Description of the project
JEME Designs is an independent sustainable and fashion brand produced in a small atelier in Berlin that creates mainly sets of two pieces for women.
We are aware that the fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors in climate change having a significant carbon impact and that a change within the industry is necessary. We want to be part of the change and that is why each action we do goes through a sustainable process. All our collections are made with organic or deadstock fabrics carefully sourced from traditional textile manufacturers from Europe. We focus on small handmade production of limited pieces to generate zero waste for the environment and our packaging is plastic-free, working only with recyclable materials.
We offer ready-to-wear two-pieces sets because we believe it’s the easiest way to get dressed, at the same time style and good fits are essential assets in our designs. We live in a fast-paced world where most women feel like they are rushing to daily activities and they tend to dress comfy but without enhancing their beauty. Not really thinking how to properly match their clothes. We offer sets for every occasion, from casual to more sophisticated events. All our pieces are designed having style, elegance and comfort in mind. We take care of all little aspects to make women’s life easy and at the same time make them feel good with themselves and beautiful. This project is an experimentation and in each collection we challenge ourselves by bringing together new concepts, playing with fabrics, cuts and shapes and breaking with the standard. We take references from iconic vintage pieces to create our collections, always adding a mediterranean touch.

    deadstock and organic fabrics
    1. Production process: our production in local, all the collections are made in a small atelier in Berlin run by two women.
    2. Deadstock and organic fabrics: our materials are sourced in Berlin. We only use deadstock and organic fabrics to generate 0 waste to the environment.
    3. Timeless and long-lasting garments: all our pieces are designed to last long, because we work with high quality leftovers materials from traditional manufacturers but that are certified. Also, we are constantly working on offering multi-use garmets, such as reversible sets so that the pieces can be worn in multiple ways and can have a longer usage.
All our pieces are designed having style, elegance and comfort in mind. We take care of all little aspects to make women’s life easy and at the same time make them feel good with themselves and beautiful. We are aware that your mood can have a huge impact on how you dress, but also viceversa. And you can choose to dress like your mood or get the mood for how you dress. Clothes have the power to support every woman and help them show up as their higher self. Therefore, we design every piece for a different daily mood, but always enhancing fun and positivism playing with colours, textures and transparencies.
We are an inclusive brand, not only on the designs that we make where we use materials that easily adapt to different bodies and sizes, but as well with all the people involved in the production process, from the women working for us to create the pieces, to the models we hire to do the shootings and even the way we want to position JEME in social media. We are an advocate for celebrating all women and that is the message we always want to transmit, to show natural women as they are.
We offer high quality clothing for a more affordable price than our competitors. The designs we make are unique pieces, limited editions offering our customers limited edition clothing, to make them feel unique. Also, we offer our customers clothing that is made to last long, with reversible pieces that you ca wear in different ways. We are aware that the fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors in climate change having a significant carbon impact and that the society is asking for a change within the industry. That we why we offer 0 waste, highly stylish two-piece sets made generating 0 waste to the environment.
The first step in our production process is visiting a small traditional manufacturer located in Berlin, where we get all the materials, deadstock fabrics that he has from high quality textile partners, mainly produced in Germany and Italy. In our studio we design the collections according with the fabrics that we have and we send our sketches to a small atelier located in Berlin run by two women, where they produce our collections.
For us has been a challenge to be able to do a collection of clothing fully controlling all the process to make it fair and sustainable. We found that many companies are not ready to produce small quantities of pieces, but out business model is based on using only deadstock fabric and that is ahy our pieces are limited.
JEME has been active since december 2021. During 2022, we have created 14 designs, selling mainly offline in Berlin, in local designer markets and pop-ups as our main brand awareness strategy and sales channel. In 2022, JEME spent a total of 20.635,00 euros on producing 14 sets and 1.427,00 euros on marketing and promotion of the products. They opened the website in March as the main sales channel as they have not had their own shop either. Even so, it managed to sell 39,43% of its collections, earning a total of 11.190,24 € 2 months before the end of the year.

For 2023, we want to scale the business and expand to other markets focusing on our ecommerce shop as the main sales channel. Our strategy is to increase the collections to 20 sets by the beginning of 2025, increasing the quantity of pieces from 10-15 units per set to 20-50 units per set, and focus all our marketing activities to raise brand visibility to reach new customers and generate growth, mainly in Germany and France, since are in the ‘’top 10’’ countries with more online fashion buyers.
We managed to create highly stylish sustainable fashion, stablishing sustainable and slow processes from sourcing the materials to the production of the garmets and undertanding the customers needs offering an easy choice to get dressed as it is a two-piece set, while commiting to the environment by not generating any waste.
The first approach used in the project has been to generate 0 waste by using only deadstock fabrics, but we are working on implementing upcycling methods for our future collections, recycling old materials and reusing non sold items to give it another life.
We are aware that there is a lot of overproduction of textiles and materials that are not being used and thar are burned and that generates extra pollution to the environment. With our business model we want to encourage not only the society to buy sustainable fashion, but we claim the rest of the fashion companies to be very strict with their processes to make them sustainable. To apply sustainable strategies to not overproduce textiles and clothes and to re-use and recycle non sold stock.
Sustainability is becoming more and more prevalent in the fashion industry and will continue to gain in importance. Increasing awareness of environmental protection and social justice is leading to a rethinking of ecological and social issues. Consumers are concerned about all aspects of sustainability, from the supply chain to packaging, but their sharpest focus is on materials, which they want to see produced using sustainable processes. Demand is shifting away from “fast fashion” and towards buying fewer, higher quality pieces.
