Using a unified design style of the outdoor space and modern landscaping equipment, the visual image of the technical outdoor space is improved, which is formed by the interaction of the modernist architecture of the group's buildings and the stylistically consistent outdoor space. Territory of Tehnikum is an important connecting link in the green-blue outdoor space network of the city of Riga, which determines the need to create Tehnikum's outdoor space as a high-quality section of this network

Please provide a summary of your initiative
When planning the outdoor space of the Technicum complex of spatial transformation, the following conceptual principles are observed:
Preservation of the modernist spatial composition of public buildings of the 80s;
Adaptation of the existing spatial structure to today's use of the territory;
Improving mobility using traffic calming tools that balance the interests of road users and prioritize pedestrians;
Increasing the biodiversity of vegetation;
Renovation and diversification of landscaping, adapting it to the needs of today's use of outdoor space;
Assigning a uniform and modern style to all outdoor spaces of the technical school.
Considering that the majority of girls study at the school, it is important to create a safe environment for them as well, by improving the outdoor space.
One of the goals of the project is to raise the quality of professional secondary education in the field of design, which determines the increasing role of design both in every human life and in creating a more harmonious society.
A safe, tidy, modern and attractive environment creates favorable conditions for the learning process, for the mood and well-being of both teachers and learners.
The professions to be studied at school, related to style, which directly indicate the need to correspond to the modern situation.
The improvement of the sports room would create opportunities to fully engage in sports, both the learned material and to maintain health in good condition.
The arrangement of the forest park is necessary for young photographers as a place of practice.
"Water class" needs SPA specialists to learn new skills and create a creative environment.
The creation of an outdoor classroom is necessary for any student of the profession to be studied.

Please give information about the key objectives of your initiative in terms of sustainability and how these have been/will be met. Please highlight how the initiative can be exemplary in this context.
Preservation of biological diversity and replenishment with new plants and trees will be ensured. Using high-quality materials will increase their service life. Lighting will be designed according to the unified concept, determining its architectural quality, functionality and economic efficiency, solar panels will be used. It is intended to use smart technologies (mobile network reception points, electric charging points, etc.). Designated spaces for micromobility tools. In the outdoor area, preserving the natural background, well-furnished rooms for various Technical activities have been created. This includes the installation of walking paths, "water classes" - the placement of several cabins or sheds on the water, improvement of the picnic area, viewing platforms that can also be used by the residents of the area. Rain gardens, “dry rivers”, permeable pavements, artificial wetlands, open stormwater gutters, green roofs would be included. Collaboratively renovating the outdoor space of Technikum improves the blue-green infrastructure of Riga and creates an exemplary practice in creating the environment not only in the Jugla area, but also on the scale of the city of Riga and Latvia.

Premises with an undetermined use play a major role in the development of the outdoor space of the Technicum, allowing not only to create better quality modern landscaping, but also to complement the existing use with new opportunities and optimize internal and external mobility. The territory of school can be included in the planned network of recreational roads parallel to Juglas lake, which connects Strazdumuiža and Krēgeru manor parks with Biķernieki forest, allowing for the creation of easily accessible, well-maintained recreation areas on the shore of the lake. The conceptual solutions are aimed at reducing the traffic in the school territory and improving the connection of the territory to public roads. To create the improvement, taking into account contemporary technological and design innovations, such as smart technologies, sound effects, etc.; considering their ease of use, compositional suitability, durability in use and care. A safe, tidy, modern and attractive environment creates favorable conditions for the learning process, for the mood and well-being of both teachers and students. The professions learned at school are related to style and fashion, which directly indicates the need to correspond to the modern situation. The improvement of the sports room would create opportunities to fully engage in sports activities, to learn learning material, and to maintain good health. Please give information about the key objectives of your initiative in terms of inclusion (ranging from accessibility and affordability for all to inclusive governing systems, design for all principles or new societal models) and how these have been met. Please highlight how the initiative can be exemplary in this context.
Considering that the majority of girls study at the school, it is important to create a safe environment for them as well, by improving the outdoor space.
The school will create an environment so that every teacher, employee, student and visitor, local residents and guests feel good and safe. Learning green skills will be included, both visually demonstrated and hands-on in this environment. Preserved historical values, supplemented with modern design, meeting needs. We will inform the local community about the project, as far as possible, their wishes and opinion are included, we will involve them in activities related to project planning (surveys, meetings), project implementation (joint clean-ups, events), after the project they will be given the opportunity to use and use the newly created place. The creation will organically fit into the existing environment, improving and perfecting the existing surroundings.

Please explain the way citizens benefiting from or affected by the initiative and civil society have been/will be involved in the initiative and what has been/will be the impact of this involvement on the initiative
Local residents will be informed about their wishes and needs in the improvement of the neighborhood, within the limits of possibilities, taking into account their wishes.
Students will have the opportunity to solve the proposed projects in the learning process - both in theory and in practice, creatively learning skills in the profession, while spending both study hours and free time in a healthy way. Both teachers and students, merging with nature, will improve their mental health, will be given the opportunity to expand their horizons, think outside the box. Making the learning process more diverse, interesting and green-minded.
Create creative co-creation, involving students of Technical and related professions schools, as well as non-governmental organizations and local residents. The range of activities can be diverse, from joint cleaning to the application of students' competence in the creation of landscaping elements, participating in the development of the design of outdoor furniture prototypes, a student from another school can be organized in a summer school or develop the details of Concept solutions, on the basis of which a construction project is developed and coordinated. These will promote communication between new practice specialists, the basis of which will be future partnerships and allow to reduce design and possibly implementation expenses (in case the furniture is produced by partner schools). A similar practice can be successful when collaborating on landscaping with horticulture schools.
The aesthetic view, safety level, wider opportunities for spending free time, attraction of tourists to a tidy area will be improved.

Please explain how different stakeholders at various levels (local, regional, national, European) were engaged in the design and implementation of the initiative.
The Property Department of the Riga City Council has allocated land for use for the improvement and development of the territory in order to ensure a high-quality, green-minded approach to the development of educational programs and their diversity. Provides necessary information, advice related to the project. The School, in cooperation with architects, has developed an outdoor concept project, a spatial perspective for the sustainable development strategy of the School, which is aimed at strengthening the image of the Technical school as an innovative and modern educational institution on the scale of Riga and Latvia.

Please explain which disciplines and/ or knowledge fields were reflected in the design and implementation of your initiative. Please explain how representatives of these different fields interacted with each other, and what the added value of this process was
Practical training teachers, practice managers, school management, Eco School representatives, landscape architects, city planning experts, water system specialists, architects, engineering solutions specialists, designers, surveyors, Riga City Council Property Department, Riga City Council Traffic Department, Riga city development department.
The representatives of all fields interacted and expressed their opinion about their representative field, and came to the best possible solution so that the project would be valid and practically applicable.

Please highlight the innovative character of the initiative, when compared to mainstream actions in the field of the initiative
A complex set of events to blend in with nature provides opportunities for successfully integrated learning in the nature of classes and events, as well as diversifying the quality recreation opportunities of students, find and staff. The concept envisages creation according to the principles of functional utility, unified modern and ecologically responsible design. The interplay between the modernist architecture of the group buildings and the stylistically coherent outdoor space. Improvement of the site, creating added value for school growers, local residents and other visitors to the site, providing for sustainable management elements. Collaboratively renovating the outdoor space of Technikum improves the blue-green infrastructure of Riga and creates an exemplary practice in creating the environment not only in the Jugla neighborhood, but also on the scale of the city of Riga and Latvia.

The general conception - to connect the historical with the modern, to connect with nature, to use the outdoor space as both a recreational and a learning space.
To improve and develop territory for the development of high-quality, green-minded educational programs and their diversity.
Preserving the natural environment includes the installation of walking paths, "water classrooms", the placement of cabins or sheds on the water, improvement of the picnic area, viewing platforms that can also be used by the residents of the area.
The project also combines sustainability issues - rain gardens, "dry rivers", permeable pavements, artificial wet, open rainwater gutters, green roofs.

Please describe the methodology or approach used in your initiative.
We used a modern approach, developing the territory, which is currently neglected, but fits into the urban environment. Based on the current situation, when it is necessary to think about green values, use renewable resources and develop and diversify the education process, we found appropriate opportunities to create objects and improvements. We took into account the overall planning direction, guidelines and strategic goals of the city:
- The creation of a quality living environment and the arrangement of public outdoor space in the neighborhoods should be promoted, especially in the residential areas of apartment buildings.
- Promote the adaptation of historical buildings to modern comfort requirements, ensuring a healthy living environment, but at the same time preserving its cultural and historical value.
- Before developing new, undeveloped territories, priority should be given to the revitalization and development of degraded and other already urbanized territories. When choosing new development areas, the compact city development model must be respected.
- The development and accessibility of waterfronts should be ensured, creating a high-quality business and living environment in them, as well as high-quality public outdoor space.

The creation of a quality living environment promotes the adaptation of historical buildings to modern requirements.

The concept of the outdoor development plan has been developed. Until now, energy efficiency restoration has been carried out in the buildings - the teaching building, one service hotel building, the renovation of the other service hotel is currently underway, buildings that are part of the overall school development concept. The topographical surveying of the outdoor area has been started in order to clarify the overall state and situation of the area.

If relevant, please describe how your initiative contributes to developing new competences, especially in the context of the European competence framework on sustainability.
Our school has been granted the status of Eco school, so we think a lot about the green direction. With the help of this project, we plan to introduce more and more green lifestyle and thinking, while actually being in nature, we teach students green thinking. Introduce different types of renewable energy. Actively involved both the people of the school and the residents of the neighborhood in cleaning, maintaining and educating the environment, creating opportunities for everyone to be in nature and enjoy its benefits. At the moment, it is in the initial stage, but we are also planning to create an eco garden where teas and various herbs are grown, we are also looking into the possibility of placing beehives in the territory.
