Our desire was to create a multifunctional structure that would adapt its contents to the location. Our wish is that the structure can function anywhere in the world. The contents are adapted to the location and needs of the city. The construction is solid and simple and enables the building to be easily repurposed. The building functions as a city, Corridors become promenades and streets, the apartment becomes a house and each zone is accompanied by rural elements (orchards, parks).

We divide the building into three life phases
family, singles and older age.
We are investigating accordingly
necessary facilities at the selected location
(Radnička cesta) for the mentioned zones.
The building functions as a city
Corridors become promenades and streets,
the apartment becomes a house
and each zone is accompanied by rural elements (orchards, parks)
The desire to create a rural spirit in an urban environment,
surrounded by office buildings and industrial halls,
resulted in housing +.
Content zones are thrown out towards the street
inviting passers-by with an airy covered square
to their use.
Ground floor with market, shops,
playgrounds and parks
gives freshness to the business zone of the city,
a place to spend time
leisure and recreation.
The apartment functions vertically,
the lower floor is the living area,
the upper floor is the night area.
Almost all types of apartments have them
exit to your terrace and garden.
Each apartment has 16 square meters of garden, which creates a new type of housing with the possibility of producing your own food.
During the pandemic, many citizens felt the need for green areas and gardens.
Our desire was to create a multifunctional structure that would adapt its contents to the location. Our wish is that the structure can function anywhere in the world.
The contents are adapted to the location and needs of the city.
The construction is solid and simple and enables the building to be easily repurposed.
The division by life stages is not necessary, but is part of our research into the concept of an urban-rural city. Inspired by the divisions within houses in Croatian villages, we wanted to see what would happen if the building was also divided into 3 phases of life. We have confirmed that the healthiest housing is still heterogeneous, where all generations are mixed.
vertical city
collective living
urban rural living
vertical village
multifunctionality
A vertical park grows along the northern facade. Each apartment has its own garden, each floor has its own orchard. The construction allows for easy repurposing of the space. If necessary, in 100 years the building can become a library, hotel, office building, hospital...
The floors are designed as walks accompanied by a green atmosphere that leaves the feeling of walking in a small village. Surrounded by greenery and orchards, we see a bare structure that gives us the impression of an urban-rural. If we look from the terrace, we can see the neighbors' terraces and gardens and feel like a community.
How to say "IS THE GRASS GREENER IN THE NEIGHBOR!?"
We wanted to achieve feeling like when an abandoned house is taken over by nature.
Before moving in, the buyer chooses the type of apartment and can change it at his will within the very flexible structure of the apartment.Zones with facilities such as a recreation zone pop out from the facade and thus enliven the industrial part of the city of Zagreb. They give a sense of living. I walk down the avenue and see a park 40 meters above me where children are running, I hear the sounds of jumping into the pool, I observe life on the terraces, a neighbor's barbecue, a grandmother planting lemons, I hear the sound of children and life in a vertical city.
The citizens of Zagreb, on the ground floor of the building, have spaces for markets, parks, playgrounds, sports facilities, facilities for children, spaces for work, recreation, learning, socializing. It is a fact that in Zagreb there are more parks for dogs than for children. The parks and orchards in the building serve the city, not just the tenants.
The idea of the project was to create a structure that can function anywhere in the world, adapting to the contents that the location requires.
In Croatian cities, there is a lack of residential areas, as well as green areas and recreational facilities. In another country, the contents of the building would be adapted to the needs of that location.
We are students of the Master of Architecture and Urbanism. The biggest question for us was the construction that would enable multi-functionality, green zones, flexibility. The research started with the question of what is the housing of the future and who is the tenant of the future. The course of the research raised the question why housing is the same everywhere? The answer is basic human needs, housing will always have a toilet, room and kitchen. We were interested in what would happen if you organized life into three life stages: old age, maturity, youth. The answer is alienation. The tenant of the future will not be much different from us, we hope that he will live in the utopia that we have designed.
Innovation in design is encouraging urban housing to go green. Simple interventions can achieve so much. Greening the terrace? Greening the roofs? Wouldn't it be wonderful if every building had its own vertical park? Wouldn't it be great if you woke up in the morning and ran for kilometers and kilometers in a vertical park between lemon trees, orange trees, pine trees, and olive trees. Wouldn't it be great if you could pick chard from your garden through the window and cook it right away? Walk from work and pick a sweet fig on the way? So little is needed for peaceful living. Wouldn't everyone be happier and healthier if they lived in a building like this?
We designed the apartments as equal modules. We were thinking about shipping containers that would just be attached to the structure and that could be changed. Or maybe about wooden cubes that would be attached to the structure. The project is at the conceptual level and everything is still just an idea.
