  • Description of the project
    C.A.O.T (Therapeutic Occupational Agricultural Center)
Rehabilitation center for the promotion of well-being and the relationship between man and nature with social inclusion, based on occupational therapy, within which every type of disability, through a multidisciplinary team, will be placed in a position to be able to actively participate in different activities of daily life and of interest but also pet therapy, horticulture/eco-laboratories, transformation of materials and sales favoring the increase of personal autonomy in relation to the "after us" project.
It will arise from the recovery of wooded areas and decaying buildings in the province of Verbania in the town of Cossogno and will be built according to the principle of design for all.
well-being and relationship between man and nature
    social-work inclusion
    increase in personal autonomy
    social agriculture
    animal and environmental education
Our project aims at social and work inclusion by creating an environmental context that is totally accessible to all forms of disability. We will deal with adoptions of abandoned animals by integrating them into relational pet therapy activities without exploiting them. The center will be supported not only by the therapies provided but also by the sale of products marketed by the transformation of our materials into work inclusion projects for our users. In eco-sustainable terms thanks to the reuse of the materials that exist in the territory and in environmental terms.
The center in its external parts will have a reference to the discourse of circularity: the environments, the laboratories, the various areas of grazing animals and the paths to reach them will be built in a circular shape (in relation to the aspect of the union between the parts where the circle symbol has a strong appeal).
All the "green" parts are designed and built to increase attention in the center and not on the spaces outside it. The choice of plants and their positioning has been studied on the basis of silvotherapy for the different congitive components of the user, also taking into consideration the aspects of the soil in energy and telluric terms.
The gardening workshops themselves refer to the sensory discourse for the visually impaired with greater attention to the alternative sensory components (medieval architectural concept).
all the various areas of the centre, both internal and external, will be accessible and practicable in terms of participation for any disabled user.
The natural activities we offer are combined with personal awareness increases through the execution of Mindfulness compansion focus therapy activities.
Our accessibility practice will then be reported on the territory in relation to social-work inclusion projects allowing the companies that welcome our users to allow those who work there to be able to produce actively by increasing their sense of effectiveness personal feeling part of the whole process.
Day centers and their users will see an increase in the personal autonomy of patients, having greater possibilities in terms of participation in projects and laboratories, thus burdening less staff (already in reduction). Children will have greater access to outing experiences because they will only be able to manage with supervision. Caregivers will benefit from the after us project by ensuring alternative housing to stay in the institution after the death of the parents.
Access to different jobs will allow both users and requesting companies to have an inclusive workplace (disabled and non-disabled people will work together).
We are currently planning laboratories with realities such as:
    - detention institution which is involved in carpentry activities for the construction of the access walkways to the areas of the center which can be traveled by wheelchairs (the prisoners actively participate in the creation of the centre, feeling part of it). the project in the early stages will be carried out within the penitentiary institution with a view to pursuing other constructions on site.
Day centers are selecting young people who will participate in social management projects by increasing the conscious and effective use of platforms through a team and a reference psychologist.
Realities such as the kennel asked to participate in the center to make dogs assist in AII therapy allowing them to be lived outside cages in contexts of harmony (trusting in greater possibilities of adoption), in this project we will work on the management of animals through our users based on personal interests.
We are working on the after us project by creating housing for children who can lead autonomous lives after the death of their parents. These are just a few examples of what we are doing but there are many other examples that we can report ranging from the care of terminally ill people to the education of post-stroke caregivers.
The added value of the project lies in the multidisciplinary nature of our team: physiotherapist, occupational therapist, educator, psychologist, volunteer, veterinarian, green area operator, peth therapy and educational farm operators, social medal manager, oss-osa.
We collaborate with territorial services then on the basis of the requesting user.
The added value lies in the fact that our center is based on occupational therapy and therefore on "doing" in general and the same strategies that lead to this goal (the person is placed at the center of the process).
The center is not yet open to the public and we hope to be able to deliver the projects in September 2023 because we are waiting to install the buildings and animal homes. From the territorial research carried out and the numerous requests received, we can say that the results will be immediately visible in the first 6 months of activity of the center, bringing personal benefits to the applicants and allowing an expansion of the planning possibilities of the territory which offer experiences in the form of daily experiences and not temporally dilated with a view to planning also for the future.
The activities proposed in the area and in general with a view to social agriculture see agricultural personnel offer rehabilitation services not having a previous specific health training. This aspect can be seen both in peth therapy, horticultural therapy and green education). However beautiful activities they do not have a heterogeneous knowledge base of the various pathologies and how they should be managed to allow an effective and lasting incusion in terms of time. Our staf unites both the health and agricultural sectors, giving quality and the possibility of continuation by linking up with local services, creating a network with associations and hospitals or similar realities.
The entire project is based on the cornerstones of occupational therapy:
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a rehabilitation health profession that promotes health and well-being through occupation.
It is a rehabilitation process which, using as a privileged means doing and the multiple activities of daily life, through an individual or group intervention, involves the whole person with the aim of helping their physical, psychological or social adaptation, to improve globally the quality of life despite the disability.
It is supported by the "Occupational Science", born for scientific research, based on the importance of occupation in human nature. Employment is the aim of TO but also the means through which one tries to modify the person's bodily functions (motor-sensory, perceptive-cognitive, emotional-relational skills); generally there are three areas within which we can find occupations: personal care, work (school) and free time.
Occupational Therapy is practiced in a wide range of settings, including hospitals, health centres, homes, workplaces, schools and retirement homes.
Patients are actively involved in the therapeutic process and the results of occupational therapy are diversified, guided by the patient and measured in terms of participation or satisfaction derived from participation.
Occupations are the set of activities that are significant for one's cultural context, appropriate to the age, chosen, organized and carried out by each individual to provide for himself, feel joy in living and contribute to the economic and social life of the community.
Occupational Therapists (OTs) play an important role in helping people of all ages. Occupational therapy is needed to overcome the effects of disability caused by disease, aging, accidents, temporary and permanent incapacities. Occupational therapists intervene professionally so that the person can carry out daily or professional activities in the highest possible degree of autonomy.

Our project has aroused the interest of the register of occupational therapists at the Italian level, which has asked us to bring our experience to various training institutes, generalizing our project also to other national realities. We will ask to participate in the next World Occupational Therapy Day by presenting our project.
Summarizing what are the basis of our project we hope can be replicated in all those contexts that currently operate without health bases, we want to focus attention on how difficult it is to take care of a disabled person and need specific training that only in collaboration with different figures it is possible to give an effective and positive activity.
Problems of social-employment inclusion: creating job opportunities both inside the center and on the territory through companies and services.
Removal of architectural barriers and construction of customized homes based on the applicant by collaborating with municipal management services (which have defined accommodations accessible to disabled people, but the fact that they develop on a single floor does not define them as such.
