It is a new construction of an extraordinary residential building with a unique facade. The client grew up as a child in his parents' nursery. His love of nature and plants should be expressed in the house. On the property there is a quaint grove full of insects, birds and other animals. This and an old linden tree should be preserved when building the house. It was included in the design. The house is grouped around this grove.
There is also a large forest near the house ('Dresdner Heide'). On the way to the city you cross this forest along a wild stream. In summer, the sun's rays glitter down to the forest floor and are reflected in the wild waves of the stream. This house is also intended to remind people of this, in that the water basin in front of the facade reflects the sun's rays, which shine through the canopy of leaves, into the interior of the house.
A poetic home
which shows how much its owner
who loves nature
There is an old grove on the property
the house opens there
there in the forest is the terrace
the sun's rays shine through the canopy of leaves
are reflected in the natural water basin at the house and
are reflected into the interior of the house
this allows you to experience inside what the wind and weather are like outside
The roof of the house was designed to be flat so that it could be planted with greenery and the beloved plants could be lifted up like on a tray
The rough brick facade shows the beauty of the world by emphasizing the play of sunlight.
The house is constructed permanently from regional building materials. The beauty protects it from future destruction and thereby remains sustainable for generations to come.

The building emphasizes the beauty of the world, nature and existence. It plays with the sunlight and blends in with the surrounding nature - it nestles against the small grove on the property and shapes clear view of it. It has special acoustics and thus enables inner peace and good conversations with other people.
This beauty protects the building from change and destruction and is intended to preserve it for future generations so that they too can get to know the beauty of the world. The resources used are thus of lasting use and meaning.
In addition, the building is designed to be long lasting/durable. It has a heavy building construction, which allows a comfortable indoor climate without air conditioning even in hot summers to come. It is heated by long-distance heating, which is CO2-free in Dresden. The house was built and planned by local companies using mostly local building materials. This enables efficient use of energy and resources.
The flat roof is greened with plants that need the special climate on the roof, at the same time rainwater is retained. Excess rainwater is seeped into the garden.
On the terrace of the building there is a water basin along the glas facade, which is planted and offers a habitat for aquatic animals. At the same time, this water cools the facade of the building (evaporative cooling) without requiring electrical energy.
The building attracts many visitors, even though it was only recently completed.
The beauty, sound, feel and smell of the building and its surroundings create a very special place.
With its characteristic facade, the building will become known in its surroundings. At the same time, it blends in with its wider surroundings thanks to its shape and choice of materials. The bricks are similar to the historically widespread sandstone architecture in Dresden and still form something completely new.
The rough brick facade plays with the sunlight and looks different depending on the time of day and the season. At the same time, only certain areas of the facade are rough, namely those that emphasize the most important parts of the house:
The base of the house is rough. This emphasizes the bond between the building and the ground, the earth, the place. It's not just anywhere, it's right there.
Second, part of the designed volume of the building has been removed to make room for the beloved grove and patio right there. This is the most important and most beautiful place in the building. There is the leaf canopy of the old trees and the glittering rays of the sun peep through onto the pool and into the living room. This place is also emphasized and highlighted by rough bricks.
The house is designed to be usable in different life situations. It is currently used as a single family home, but can easily be used by two parties. All you have to do is install another door and close another one. The resulting apartments are each on their own level. The ground floor apartment is barrier-free accessible. It is easily adapted for use with a wheelchair. All you have to do is remove a small piece of drywall. Without this, it can be used by people with walking aids without any problems.
The house has very good acoustics due to its non-orthogonal geometry and special acoustic materials. This, together with the good lighting, helps people with hearing impairments, among others. You can have a good conversation and communicate in this house.
In the future, the building will potentially also be habitable for people with less money. The reason for this is that the house can be divided into two smaller apartments. Also, it will likely have a long lifespan. The older houses get, the cheaper rents in this house can be, since the construction work was done a long time ago.
Until the completion of this house, the client lived in the building next door with his family and children. When the couple separated, a decision had to be made as to how and where the children should live in the future. The client, together with the mother of his children, decided that a new house should be built for him on the neighboring vacant lot. His wife would continue to live in the previous neighboring building.
This made it possible for the children to have their mother and father in the immediate vicinity even after their parents separated.
The children had such a clear influence on the creation of the building in this place and in this way. In both buildings, the children have children's rooms and can be with their parents, even if they no longer live as a couple. In addition, the surrounding neighbors had an influence on the building in which openings were made in the fences - so that friendship and neighborliness can also develop in the future.
In addition to the individual level of the client, the level of the separated family and children was included. Furthermore, the neighborhood was included by building gates to the neighboring gardens, not erecting fences or deliberately placing windows - in order to enable or prevent views.
As a further level of stakeholders, the building supervision and the city planning office were integrated into the planning. Their interests were also taken into account.
This architecture was created with the help of many different disciplines. Architecture, art, poetry, statics, energy calculations, acoustic calculations, geodetic surveys, photography and crafts and gardening worked together. This is the only way this work could come about.
Among other things, a poem was written for the design of the building, which helped to capture the atmosphere of the building. At the same time, measurements of the ground and the property were made, without which the planning would not have been concluded. Energetic calculations have been made to ensure that the climate in the building is good. Acoustics were calculated to design the sound impression. The statics of the building had to be calculated so that it is stable enough. The various craftsmen brought in ideas on how the building could be built better and more efficiently. For example, a wooden floor installed that has a soapy surface - this is sustainable and traditional. The living space was partitioned with a movable glass wall to make room for the client's beloved plants in winter ('green saloon'). The horticultural knowledge was central to this - together with the glazier and plumber, a solution was found that allows a slightly cooler climate in this area for the plants and still does not provoke any mold.
The result is an extraordinarily poetic building that is close to the Bauhaus in thought and design. At the same time, it transports these thoughts into the present day and feels committed to the future through sustainable construction.
The sight of the beauty of the building points directly to the beauty of the world and of existence. In the face of major global challenges, this helps not to despair and to move forward with courage.
The combination of poetic design ideas (see poem attached) and in particular the unusual brick facade of the building are innovative in the field of architecture.
This facade was handcrafted by a local company using locally produced bricks.
At the beginning of the project there were trusting conversations between the client and the architect. Among other things, it was about the previous living experiences/stories of the client, his current living situation and ethical values. One important conversation in particular took place directly on the property where the house was to stand.
After that, the architect collected ideas and impressions of the place and the surroundings. He often passed through the large forest ('Dresdner Heide') nearby on his way to the property. At a wild stream in this forest, he was struck by the peculiar beauty of this place near the property. He couldn't let that go.
He wanted to capture this atmosphere and situation in order to perhaps bring a piece of it into this house. This is how a poem was created, which should form the atmospheric basis for the building design. It can be found in the application documentation.
The method can easily be copied. The focus on conversation and exchange as well as poetry as the basis for technical and engineering tasks.
In addition, the design idea of the facade can be adopted and modified.
The project is dedicated to the challenges of our time. It uses aesthetic beauty to point to the value of our world and existence. It does so in the presence of major economic and environmental challenges that threaten to despair people. In this situation, the beauty of the world offers great hope and comfort utterly needed.
