  • Description of the project
Paulownia is one of the world’s fastest growing trees and it is able to grow over 5 meters in a year and to produce as much wood volume as an oak tree in a tenth of the time. It is often referred to as the “magic tree” or “oil well” tree in the United States and European countries since it generates solid gains. Paulownia is highly valued in the woodworking and furniture industries. In 5-6 years, a plot of 1 ha is able to produce 240-350 m3 of high-quality wood. The wood of the Paulownia tree is often referred to as the aluminum among the precious woods. It is extremely light, but still very robust. It also takes, once dried, hardly any water and is of enormous importance to the climate and the environment. With its large leaves, it absorbs significantly more CO2 than most other trees – which is why it is often referred to as the lung of the cities.
Greenchild LLC was established in 2020 aspiring to combine health and sustainable growth while preserving the natural habitat for future generations. The main objective of the company is to cultivate Paulownia trees on behalf of customers and to become a leading company in the field of cultivar development of paulownia trees. Greenchild will become a reliable partner for the costumers, while linking the economy and the ecology,
The initial project of the company was finalized in September and the company has managed to complete the objective of planting 80,000 paulownia trees in 130 hectares of land in Lloshkobare, Ferizaj and invested roughly 1.5 million Euros in soil and assets. In doing so, the company has employed 11 regular and 10 seasonal employees and has invested state of the art assets to prepare the soil and to establish the watering systems. The project was successfully finalized and will continue to implement further projects to make the world greener and healthier.
    Planting Pawlonia Trees
Reducing Co2 and boosting O2 production
    Wood production
Inventing new varieties of Pawlonia/Kiri trees
Exporting small plants and seeds for further production
The main objectives of the project was to establish a sustainable and green project in Kosovo, in country where the green policies are not as visible as in other developed countries, and to be able to attract investors to invest in the wellbeing of the planet. The objective was fully met. Greenchild has managed to successfully establish the company in Kosovo, to plant around 200 hectares of trees and to attract the attention of world wide investors, interested to invest in a greener planet. Project is a living example of how we can contribute to the wellbeing of the planet in a developing country like Kosovo, creating a beautiful plantation and attracting the attention of the investors world wide.
Greenchild is planning to expand the project in the entire Western Balkan Region. The expansion of plantations of trees, Greenchild aims to stimulate a new dimension of cultur and awareness raising about the importance of nature and the benefit of trees. The people that worked in this project in Kosovo (over 20 farmers from Ferizaj vilages) helped to build the plantation with a lot of enthusiasm, creating a special bond with the nature, and appreciating the initative taking place in their region. Groups of students from kindergarten, elementary, and high schools are continuously visiting the plantation and learning with a hands on approach about the nature and the benefit of trees. Recently, also different companies from different backgrounds are arranging visits in the plantation to raise awareness amount the employees about the importance of saving our planet.
Greenchild, following the closure of the first project (of building the plantations), is now starting to work with inventing our own Kiri tree variety, in cooperation with Dr. Sonja Simic, professor in Laboratory of Plant Cell and tissue Culture (LPCTC) at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University „Ss. Cyril and Methodius“, Skopje. Through our own patented variety, we aim to not only expert our seedlings, but we are going to engage all the farmers throughout Kosovo to plant seeds and grow trees throughout the region. We will access people that are least advantaged, people in rural areas, with very poor economic situation, and we will empower the society through a very good cause (building a greener world, while benefiting from the amazing features of the kiri tree). One of the main benefits of kiri tree, aside from its O2 production power, is that it grows very quickly. If you cut a tree and used its amazing wood, it will grow back very tall in very short period of time. This allows for business opportunities in the wood industry, benefiting from the extreme light and strong wood of kiri tree
Besides from the people that were directly involved (benefiting from O2 production of Pawlonia Tree), the project involved many farmers from around the country during the peak season of planting the plantations. During the second phase of the Greenchild project, we aim to involve CSOs that are concerned about the nature and to go hand in hand with all the groups of interest for the upcoming projects.
Greenchild was established in a poor country, benefiting from the very convenient soil of Kosovo, and also aiming to raise awareness that we need to take care of our plant. During the initial phases of the project, Greenchild aimed to partner with the local and national actors however, since the business represents a new concept for the region, Greenchild was not supported to the expected level. Nevertheless, in the local level, Greenchild managed to rent many of the public-owned lands to be able to expend to project. The future plans of Greenchild are to partner with more institutions (especially European) to make future projects even more sustainable and benefiting the nature.
The project involved the knowledge fields and the skills of all the relevant stakeholders (starting from Professors of the university, all the way to the farmers with planting skills). Representatives of all fields were combined in a complete harmony to be able to create a project that has sustainable power and a bright future ahead, in front of all the environmental challenges that we are faced with in recent years. We have arranged soil experts, discovered and created water wells to ensure a proper irrigation system, planted and maintained the trees, and at the same time worked on our R&D and creating our own tree variety.
Result: The project created amazing results in over 200 ha of land. The plantation that was build through the "Greenchild" project will enable enourmous production of O2, beautiful plantations to visit, and cased international awareness (attracing foreign investments). Paulownia's uniqueness lies in the fact that the tree does not require re-planting. After each cutting, clipping, the tree regenerates in a very short period of time.
Outcome: O2 production, CO2 reduction, and providing excellent services in tree plantation
Impact: Long term effect in the O2 production for direct and indirect beneficiaries
Greenchild concept is highly innovative, there is no similar project in the region, and very limited projects of similar nature worldwide. The project is beneficial to the society, the the planet, and enables the major CSOs of different companies that do the most harm to the environment, to invest back on it and repair the damages made.
The methodology used for this project is pretty straightforward. Greenchild has managed to work on over 200 hectares of plantations, involving over 100 farmers, and creating a beautiful plantation that can serve as a role model for many companies. The methodology that was applied until the project was over is benefiting from foreign investments to be able to plant the trees and ensure their maintenance. Further on, in the future projects, the company will keep attracting foreign investors and expanding the plantation even further. The company will provide O2 certificates for all the investors, which will serve as an incentive for large factory owners, that create the largest amount of CO2.
The project will be expanded in the entire Western Balkan. The business model is applicable for each country where the soil allows for kiri tree growth. The Paulownia tree is a great choice for landscaping and beautification.
Due to its fast growth, large size and abundant flowering Paulownia will become a decoration of parks, squares, entire cities! The size of the leaves reaches 75 cm in diameter, so they are true "factories" of oxygen.

The largest driver of warming is the emission of greenhouse gases, of which more than 90% are carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane. Human emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases – are a primary driver of climate change – and present one of the world's most pressing challenges. Greenchild aims to provide solutions of this problem, by creating and planting tree varieties of Pawlonia (also refered as Kiri tree). The leaves of one Paulownia tree absorb an average of 22 kg of carbon dioxide and release 6 kg of oxygen in 1 year, while cleaning thousands of cubic meters of air.
