Bridge park to educate people about the top level of their city
The idea is to connect rooftops by bridges and thus create a unique new park –the Bridge Park. That practically creates a new park right there where we need it most – in the heart of the city. If it grows to be sufficiently large, the Bridge Park has the potential to teach city people a whole new way of pedestrian
traffic. It can become a network of green corridors that connects and augments existing parks thus providing uninterrupted, pedestrian-only flow among all parks and
gardens.

city on two levels
Given the scarcity of land in contemporary cities, the Bridge Park yields the most effective use of land, with over 200% utilization rate – buildings on ground and
bridged roofs on top.

In a denser city people naturally tend to place more
value on stress free public spaces such as parks,
gardens and squares. That is why, the purpose of
the Bridge Park is to accommodate the increasing
number of people who want to experience the city by
offering them a valuable urban asset – a stress-free,
multi-use public space that encourages participation
and engagement.

As a new form of architecture, the
Bridge Park allows to develop the
city in two levels. Gradually, when
enough bridges are built, people will be
able to go from A to B in a completely
different way. It will allow to experience
the city from above. The potential is vast,
in fact it’s an unchartered dimension of
urban life. And the best thing about it is
that it is completely integrated with the
existing infrastructure without any need
for substantial upfront investment or extensive reconstruction. It creates a parallel infrastructure without any of the inconveniences normally associated with
it.

Movement between different areas and visiting new places comes more naturally, without the
stress or traditional connotations pertaining to the
ground level sub-culture. The solution will also equalize
the uneven spread of attractive public spaces
and parks across the city. A permissive and inclusive
architecture, it is a powerful city planning tool to
strengthen social collaboration, promote new pat-
terns of movement and increase the flow among
different parts of the city.

The municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg have been made aware of the concept.
I am also currently in discussion for potential implementation with the municipality of Odense.

The Bridge Park connects more than buildings
– it bridges the different urban spaces, effectively
uniting them into one and the same common space.
On the ground everything is different, from a bird’s
eye it is one and the same city for everyone.
