    REC COMTAL’S BIODIVERSITY RESERVE

    ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION AND BIODIVERSITY REGENERATION OF “REC COMTAL” IN VALLBONA

    The project is based on the ecological restoration as well as the biodiversity and ecosystem regeneration of the Rec Comtal, a historical water canal from the 10th century. Rec Comtal, one of the most important hydraulic infrastructures in Barcelona, was in a degradation process due to the abandonment it suffered in recent years; therefore, the driving force of the project is to recover and protect its ecological values and transform them into a green infrastructure.

    Reform and pedestrianization of the "Plaza de la Villa" of Sencelles

    The principal public square in the Majorcan municipality of Sencelles was used during decades as a parking lot. This project recuperates the plaza as the town’s preeminent social space. With citizen participation, we were able to recover the plaza as a venue for markets, dances, and processions. The design provides universal access, by integrating a ramp and eliminating barriers; sustainability, by creating a microclimate; and historic integration, by using local materials.

    Activating Spaces with neuroDiverse Publics

    Neurodiverse people face difficulties using public play areas. ASD Publics has developed autism-friendly design guidelines and an innovative co-creation method, including a performative workshop methodology, to co-design inclusive public playgrounds with and for autistic children and their families. These have been tested in four co-creation workshops that explored new ways of engaging autistic children through play and creative ways of exploring multi-sensoriality and connectivity with space.

    The new Fanton Bivouac is a protective shell at high altitude, a rough-hewn sloped volume that inhabits the Marmarole saddle in the Dolomites, a boundless space at 2667 m.a.s.l, a context made of rock, light, wind, snow and distances. Its fibreglass body bends along the cliff profile and draws a visual tracer, an attempt to amplify and frame the landscape, a space coagulated around the tension between the vastness of the natural architecture of the Alps and the minute one of the bivouac

    This is a unique district library, located in a dense urban node of the city of Barcelona, a sculptural volume inspired by stacked blocks of books and seated on a square slightly elevated above the street and whose large gaps and voids dialogue with the environment. The access arcade extends the pedestrian and cultural axis of the neighborhood and connects with the interior central courtyard that connects all of floors and brings natural light into the heart of the building.

    The BIRN BiH and the Srebrenica Memorial Center opened a new memory room, in a place of a transformed ancient battery factory, which now serves as an exhibition center. The room and video archive of 100 video testimonies along with collected items from the victims family members, became part of a permanent exhibition. The place of suffering is transformed in place of memorialization, which will contribute to the local community healing and combat genocide denial.
